Total Noob when it comes to rims....

Hey guys,

I am new to the forums and the awesomeness of owning a g35. I just purchased an all black w/ with tinted windows 05' g35x. I love it!!! Now I need a nice pair of shoes. I am looking for either 19's or 20's (black). I just need a little more help. I need to know what I will need to make it look sweet. I think I will have to drop it some to make it look sweeter. What all do I need besides the rims and tires? And how low should it be dropped? I am not getting a body kit or anything. Thanks in advance for all your help. The forums and people seem really cool here.

I have an 06x blk and tinted up. I am staying away from black rims, just because I do not care for them personally, but The FAQ in the sedan section mentions wheel/tire sizes suggested.

I have a set of 2004 unrevised z springs that I will be installing in the next couple of weeks and will let some people know how things go. I have been told it will drop around an inch all around which is just enough to close the gap, but not slam the car since it is my daily driver. I will be interested to see how the x shocks/struts hold up with z springs, but they are close to the stock spring rates so it should be pretty fair.

I hope to manage without a camber kit, but I will see how it goes when I install the springs and then make a decision from there.

"murdered out" look is sweet if you can pull it off. i just dont like it when it goes overboard...meaning everything black from headlights, grille, badges and taillights. you need to find the right balance and contrast. my two cents... gl with the modding.

Thanks for all the replies again, everyone seems really nice here. Yes I am going with the murdered out look but not too much. I am only doing black rims with chrome lips to accentuate my chrome door handles and chrome trim, i may do the tailights but not sure. I have to see how the black rims look first. My real if i get 20's what do I need to lower it with? How far can I lower it without it screwing up anything on my car. This will be an everyday driver for me. How many inches?

if u do all blacked out do it right do it with some quality wheels and quality painted tail lights and dont paint the headlights black.. thats just dumb and looks terrible imo

wuteva u do just do it right,

u dont really SCREW anything up by lowering your car, your camber and toe will be affecte and u will need camber kits + toe bolts(rear) to fix that but other than that ull get different opinions on how lowering puts more stress on certain parts on ur car but i would say if u lower it understnd that it means being more careful with the car so even if ur 2 inches off the ground if and ur careful u shud be fine, like the member shanesg hes pretty darn for coilovers

Well as far as budget goes, I have looked at some black 20's and have found some that I like in the neighborhood of 2200 to 2500 with tires. I am not sure how low I will need to lower my car or what type of setup I need to do it. I am assuming I need springs, camber lowering kit? I am not sure how much that stuff costs.

a good lowering job..

springs 150-200+ with stock struts
shocks/struts if u want adjustables 4-800+

or coilovers:
750+ to 1-2gs depends on brand

might have to use a camber kit...get event tire wear
camberkit depends on teh drop 150-200 rears, 200+ fronts

so from a budget point of view:
as cheap as

400-600 plus install = 700+
or more...

just something to budget in..
