I suspect that you unplugged the wrong connector.

You probably unplugged the main one with the 3 pin connector in the middle of the circuit board. Try unplugging the smaller 4 pin one in the top left corner on this pic:

I'll try it again tomorrow morning, hopefully it works, it's kind of time consuming doing this stuff in 20 degree weather :P

E_K: you sure it's just that top left? not both the left and right top of the circuit board?

Thanks E_K, I'll keep you all posted.

Update:
I took out the tails again,
it's a no-go, since the circuit board that E_K showed me is actually inside the tails and I cannot access them without baking the tails which I do not want to do.
So I'll leave them as is

You can get access to it, but you will have to get a bit creative with reaching in there. If you have surgical clamps it wouldn't take long. Certainly much easier than trying to open the lights, which can't be opened by the baking method.

Too bad we're not close geographically, otherwise I could unplug it with small clamps.

E_K, is it a clip that clips it into place? or is it just a simple pull-in/out style plug?

I will try again tomorrow or monday morning..

I'm kind of hesitant of doing this since in case if I do unplug it, and it doesnt work or messes something up, I am not exactly sure how I'll replug that clip back in. the space back there is extremely tight. I think I'll test these on my stock tails instead of these ones.

Prelude555 did it with a small screwdriver.

Now keep in mind, he's doing this on a 03-05 tailight, so the plugs are on the right side, top and bottom:

For the 06-07, the two plugs are on top, left and right.

It's a small clip type plug, though it's fairly soft plastic, so it doesn't take too much force to lift up the tab slightly. If you need to plug it back in, I think the clamps would help.
