I appreciate the comments...ALL of them! I know some folks like them and some folks don't - heck, I'm not really crazy about the look myself! It's all about the right size and offset wheels at the right price for me. As far as knockoff-brand wheels, I'm actually pretty crazy about the looks of the XXR 522 wheels, but even they would cost nearly 3 times what I paid for these Cobra R's, by the time I resell the 2 good tires.

I would, however, welcome any opinions or input on powdercoating them. I'm thinking black, but I don't know if I want to do glossy black or maybe a more matte finish. Also, since the original finish on the wheels is good (also powdercoat, I assume), what kind of prep work might be required to redo them in black? Do I have to remove the old powdercoat before applying the new, or what? I just don't know the process.

OK, so I finally took time to get the 4x4 tires off of the Cobra R's, and I had 2 used tires mounted on them just to see what it would look like. As a reminder, they are 18x9, +24 all around, and I would run 245/45-18 tires all around, as are mounted in these pics (although I'll dismount these and run much newer tires if I decide to go with it.)

My thoughts:

Tires look just the slightest bit stretched on the wheels. Decently agressive look on front, as far as the offset is concerned. Obviously needs WAY more back tire to optimize looks, but that's not really the point of the whole exercise. I want to rotate tires. All in all, it's just a bit hideous, but not completely hideous. I think I could live with it.

Please give opinions - good or bad!

 

I think they got possibilities. Clean them up, center caps, tires and maybe a subtle drop and they'd look comfortable on your G.

I'd rather rock any of the OEM coupe wheels over those.. just my opinion

 

I don't entirely disagree, BUT!!! The 18x8's are just a bit too narrow for the 245/45 tires, which consequently makes the tires wear in the centers prematurely. I think 8.5 is the ideal width for the 245 tires, but 9 is what I found cheap.

I'd agree with needing spacers on the rear. For what it's worth, though, these wheels do clear the Brembos with no spacers, with room to spare.

A drop should help, but I still think the Saleen's look a lot better. I'm looking at doing something similar with another set of 18x9 wheels for my winter setup with 245/45/18 all season tires.

Ehh, i personally would stay with stock 19's or even 18's. But whatever you like man!

 

id say 15mm up front and 20mm in the back, add a lil stretch, drop, and powdercoat them and they might fit in well.......lol
