Stock wheels painted using Plasti-Dip

Decided to paint the wheels today since it was nice out. It came out great, considering its my first time painting wheels. I used Plasti-Dip as the primer, and then painted over that. The reason i used plast-dip was so i can peel it off whenever i get tired of the color.

Here's how it came out:

:JAMIN:

Finally took some time out to take a few close ups.

NOTE: my crappy camera wasn't able to capture the metallic flakes that are visible in the sun, so it might look a bit dull in some pics.

Not bad. Looks pretty good from far. Got any closer pics?

Damn! That looks great man, so whats the deal with this Plasti-Dip stuff? Youll be able to peel off the bronze whenever you want?

sorry it got too dark to take pics with the wheels on the car. I took a quick one from my phone, but ill post some when i do a proper shoot. Also forgot to mention i used a Metallic bronze paint so when the sun hits the wheels you can actually see the metallic flakes, other times it looks dark bronze.

Yup! thats what i love about Plasti-dip. This stuff is actually used on tools to give it some grip/protection. It has a rubberized matte black look to it, and can be peeled off. Just make sure to use at least three coats of plasti-dip, or else its a pain to remove. Used this to black out my grille as well.

What did u use to get rid of the rash??

ILL_G 11-24-2010 07:06 PM

absolutely nothing! gets covered by the plasti-dip and paint. I had lots of scratches near the lug nut area as well, its all covered. No sanding BS :D

Frankieg35 11-24-2010 07:10 PM

Really!! Hmm gonna have to check that stuff out.. I need to redo my stockers..

ILL_G 11-24-2010 07:25 PM

Everything i used to paint em can be found at Home Depot.

What kind of paint did you use as well? Brand/type? Turned out looking pretty good from afar. Love to see closer pics, plus how well will that stuff hold up to daily driving? Will it chip/peel? Either way, props for originality.

For paint I used Rustoleum mettalic bronze, and clear coat. Honestly this method is not for people who are looking for something permanent. The reason I did it this way was because I'm very picky and didn't know if I'd like the bronze look on my car. It doesn't peel easily but you do have to be careful not to hit the curb while parking. This was my temporary fix for the winter till I get new wheels in spring. But hey it looks pretty darn good for $30 bucks that I spent :D

**** i might do this on my 20s instead of getting the lips re polished and cleared. atleast for now

iamericgee 11-25-2010 02:45 PM

RelliKg35 11-25-2010 03:43 PM

VictoriousG 11-25-2010 04:30 PM

Deemo 11-25-2010 07:39 PM

so i can use plasti-dip to prime and cover sratches, then use some high heat gloss black paint over it, then a coat of clear?
I might do this tomorrow.
