Not bad. Looks pretty good from far. Got any closer pics?

Damn! That looks great man, so whats the deal with this Plasti-Dip stuff? Youll be able to peel off the bronze whenever you want?

What did u use to get rid of the rash??
absolutely nothing! gets covered by the plasti-dip and paint. I had lots of scratches near the lug nut area as well, its all covered. No sanding BS :D
Really!! Hmm gonna have to check that stuff out.. I need to redo my stockers..
Everything i used to paint em can be found at Home Depot.
What kind of paint did you use as well? Brand/type? Turned out looking pretty good from afar. Love to see closer pics, plus how well will that stuff hold up to daily driving? Will it chip/peel? Either way, props for originality.

For paint I used Rustoleum mettalic bronze, and clear coat. Honestly this method is not for people who are looking for something permanent. The reason I did it this way was because I'm very picky and didn't know if I'd like the bronze look on my car. It doesn't peel easily but you do have to be careful not to hit the curb while parking. This was my temporary fix for the winter till I get new wheels in spring. But hey it looks pretty darn good for $30 bucks that I spent :D
**** i might do this on my 20s instead of getting the lips re polished and cleared. atleast for now
wow looks great homie
looks good
nice good job op! in for closer pics tho
so i can use plasti-dip to prime and cover sratches, then use some high heat gloss black paint over it, then a coat of clear?
I might do this tomorrow. |
Came out great... I never thought of doing this.
So you used Plasti-dip as the base coat? and painted over the dip? |

looks really nice, didnt know you could paint the plastidip.
you shoulda left the cards on lol. looks good tho.
Looks nice, I also like the idea of the plasti-dip acting as a protecting agent to the wheels.
New pics added

I'm just curious, I've never used plastidip. Does this **** really peel off clean? Or does it leave residue everywhere and get pretty messy?
How many cans of plastidip, did it take to get the wheels black? More plastidip easier it peels off I'd assume? |

Holy ****, that stuff is amazing!
Probably build up like a bitch around hardware on modular wheels though. You have intrigued me :) |
why not just use plasti dip primer instead of that black?

you used the black plasti dip can as a primer right? than the bronze after those 3 coats of black plasti dip?
correct.
see what i was saying is that if i were to do it, it would be easier using plasti dip primer right? you do know that plasti dip has there own primer right?
Didn't know about that. Can that be peeled off as well? didn't see it at home depot.
i have no idea.. i will check to make sure
came out pretty good.
Change the color of my rims weekly....hmmm damn ideas
Looks good!

I'm planning on doing this to my wheels possibly this weekend. Is there anything I should know before proceeding? Any additional prep-work or tips you think would be helpful?
How long did you wait between each coat? How thick would you say each coat was? Was there any specific technique you found that worked well for you? Lastly, what type of finish do your wheels have? I like the idea of Plasti Dip but not diggin the matt finish. I suppose I could go over it with black paint then clear coat; are there any alternatives to getting a glossy black finish? |

I like the idea of Plasti Dip but not diggin the matt finish. I suppose I could go over it with black paint then clear coat; are there any alternatives to getting a glossy black finish? approximately 15 mins. Heres a few tips that i would suggest: 1. Make sure to spray some plasti dip on a piece of cardboard to ensure that its spraying properly. Sometimes the spray cans are defective and can spray big blobs instead of an even spray. 2. While spraying the wheels try to hold the can perpendicular to the wheels. Don't tilt it too much. 3. Shake well before starting and continue shaking can while spraying. 4. Apply in short bursts rather then holding on to the nozzle. Plasti dip is easy to work with, if you over spray a certain area it wont start running as regular paint would. As far as thickness is concerned, i can't say exactly how thick the coats were, but just be sure to cover all the corners and edges. I went through about 3 cans of plasti dip, so basically one can should be used for one coat on all the wheels. I used a metallic bronze on my wheels and sprayed one coat of clear on top of it. It wasn't too glossy but in the sun you can see the metallic sparkle. If you don't want a matte finish just get some glossy paint and clear coat it. Hope that helps. |

This is my daily driver so I can't really have it sitting in my garage while the wheels dry for a day or something lol. I appreciate all the help. |
