Plasti Dipped 19" stock rims - Glossy

Decided to plasti dip/paint my stock 19s to glossy black. End result was somewhat decent; could have been better if I waiting more than 15 minutes between coats.

Steps I took:
1. Plasti Dipped the wheels (3 coats)
2. Sprayed gloss black gloss paint over plasti dip (2 coats)
3. Sprayed clear coat over paint (1 coat)

Let me know what you think.

Prep work (used index cards.. went to Walmart and found these.. 100 pack for $0.50):

PD 1st coat:

PD 2nd coat:

PD 3rd coat:

Paint 1st coat:

Paint 2nd coat:

Finished 1 (you can see the that the paint didn't come out completely smooth):

Finished 2 (can't really tell from afar.. I'm content with it):

I'll post up some pics in the sun tomorrow since it's dark out.

Props to ILL_G for the help*

Lol eh, if I get tired of this; I can always go back. This should all be reversible since I used PD as the primer.

You should of tried sanding 1000 grit on the 3rd plasti dip coat to get rid of the bumps you see

The plasti dip will peel off since its under the paint.. I think thats how it works..

+1 on sanding after the third coat of pasti dip. I did my wheels black, but i sanded the hell out of them and then i primed and paint then clear. It came out very nice, so smooth wasn't any imperfections. Good job though, it looks nice

^ Yep, But he would have to sand the plasti Dip, I dont think plastidip is meant to be sanded.

Plastidip > Sandable Primer> Gloss Black?

You dont want to sand the wheels. Since you are using plasti-dip you want everything to be reversible.

actually, i didn't know you could sand plasti dip.. but as i can remember, everything came out perfectly until i added the clear coat. either that or my 2nd coat of paint was too thick -- this may have caused the bubbles.

the plasti dip acts as a primer. not only does using it allow you to skip the sanding but it also acts as a shield for your stock surface. this is removable "paint" but only comes in a matte finish which is why i painted gloss on top.

i also heard that if you don't let the plasti dip fully dry, adding paint on top can change the characteristics of the plasti dip rendering ability to be reversed useless. i'm seriously hoping this is not true cuz then i'd be f'd in the event i ever wanted to go back to stock.

you plasti dipped > primed > painted > cleared?
