Bakwoods Build Thread

Picked up my 04 coupe a few months back after wrecking my 08 Lancer. Decided to go more of the VIP look.

To start

Exterior
20x9 and 20x10.5 wheels
Ken Style rear bumper
Limo tint rear window

Interior
Custom glassed 5 gauge pod (clock bezel)
ProSport gauges
Blue LED accents

Performance
Polished intake manifold upper
Motordyne 5/8 Spacer
CF engine cover
Polished Weapon R PS tank
Full HKS exhaust

Suspension
Form and Function Type 2 Coils (dropped the airbag idea due to cost)

ICE
-Working on it

Pictures to follow tonight. The parts are ordered and a majority are still at my house waiting to be installed. Coils ordered yesterday, new headlights coming in a week. Waiting to build the audio components just now because I can't seem to find a box that'll house 2 12's comfortably in my coupe. She'll be low and slow for now but mean and clean at that.

Please feel free to offer suggestions as to what to do next. I know the possibilities are endless with these cars and people will say "well it depends on what you want to do." Each car I've built has been unique in it's own way because it doesn't stay true to the norms, I hope my G is the same way.

About that Motordyne 5/8 Spacer. What is it? How much? How much more power does it add?

Spacer is a plenum spacer, simply stacks the intake manifold higher from it's original position. Personally I didn't think anything like this made any sense until I tried it. The idea behind it is to make the intake chamber larger = more air = more power as the theory goes.

So far haven't noticed any significant increase in performance or response so I shall put my $0.02 about this as a bogus mod. However there will be members who quickly say otherwise. To me a real noticeable mod is a BBTB, at that point it's not going to give you more HP but it will give you a real kick in the acceleration and throttle response.

Sorry about the pics not being up, I work 12 hour shifts and am all over the place with my schedule at work, fortunately I put in my 2 weeks, let them find a new executive chef!

Motordynes spacers go between the upper plenum and lower manifold. They correct Nissan's design flaw where the two front ports don't receive equal amount of air. Since Tony came out with this mod almost 9 years ago members have considered it, "Best bang for your buck!" It's part of the breather mods from the intake, plenum and exhaust that will eventually net you major gains in WHP....once you get your Osiris tune. You can buy Motordynes spacer direct, Google search!

Actually, on a DE engine, there have been multiple dynos that proved decent gains with the plenum spacer. On an HR, however, you'd need to also get the MREV2 lower intake manifold to see any gains with the spacer.

If you ordered the headlights off eBay that have all those little LEDs and Rings and **** inside, cancel the order. Mod your OEM lights for projectors or grab 06+ OEM projectors.

Otherwise sounds like a good start, get some pics up

She’s still in rough shape from what I want, but better than nothing and certainly better than stock. I've been so busy with school and work that I haven't had time to take and decent pictures of the car, let alone do any real work to the car. Rolled the fenders and going to drop the car this week weather permitting. Used the ol baseball bat trick to knock out that stupid lip. Now time to pop, lock and drop it lol. Looking forward to getting a quick photo shoot of the car and get those pics up too.

Update 5/22/13

Dropped it a wee bit. Had to replace the rear driver caliper which seized up 2 days ago. Explains why my brakes started to squeal like crazy while I was driving. Passenger side was okay but the driver side was discolored and metal on metal. Fortunately I saved the rotor, didn't damage it at all. Installed new pads on both sides and while I had the wheel off I decided to drop it 2" from the stock height that I set it at. The handling feels the same, the ride is a little stiffer but you wouldn't know it was on coilovers when you drive it.

Also had the time to get some work done on the gauge pod finally. It's a slow work in progress. Once installed I'll have the wiring out of the way and still keep my HUD. Hopefully if mine works out I'll be able to start offering a service to mod the existing clock bezel in order to mount pods and glass it. Who knows. I'm meticulous with my work, next step is to pull and roll the fenders. Give it a nice aggressive pull and then consider camber arms as an upgrade in order to take the car to a -2.5 or -3 camber to tuck the wheels just that much more and really get close to the ground. Maybe I'll win the Low Car Limbo one day lol.

Gauges are functional at least. Since I'm going F/I in the future, might as well deal with the headache now instead of later. I've seen a few G's rolling with the modified clock bezel with gauges on it, it's functional and I think it looks good. Those are also the guys running single, twin, and S/C set ups. If I was staying N/A then I'd say yeah flame away lol. However I stand behind my work.

Headlights were actually inexpensive compared to the $400 for 06 projectors which didn't fit into my car. I learned quickly that the shape of the coupe/sedan headlights is vastly different which is why I had issues installing. I'm fairly new to the G scene so when I did these mods I wasn't a part of any forum, in fact I've done everything through trial and error. Not bad for a complete newbie.
