Ah the RB20 suffers from the same displacement problem and it's an iron block as a bad bonus.

The 280hp 3.0 VQ30DET single would be the better choice

If you're going through enough trouble for an engine swap and want to keep it in the Nissan family, a RB25, RB26, VH45, VH41, and VK45 are all better options IMO
you would take a nice big cast iron rb20 boat anchor over an all alloy sr20 ??
your crazy

My main point was that the SR is not God's gift to mankind as it is often made out to be. Going to all the trouble of an engine swap only to put in a SR20 is going backwards IMO. Just TT the VQ.
I did forgot about the SR20 being aluminum, So maybe not the RB20, but the RB26DETT for sure. I don't care if it is a boat anchor, it's much more capable of making big (non peaky) reliable power without as much fuss. Also, the block can be swapped for the RB30 for more torque. The VHs and VKs have also proved themselves well over 1000HP. I could see the VQ30DET simply for the fact that a VQ to VQ swap would be a lot simpler, but still, at that point why not just turbo the VQ35???

But despite all that, the only reason to go with any of those is strictly 'ethical' or 'sentimental'
From a logical/performance/cost standpoint there is no better swap than a GM LS motor.

rb30 block is cast as well.

what you think gives a better center of gravity..... a straight 6 filling the length of the engine bay, or a 4 banger up snug in the back of the engine bay... . its not always about outright power

the $$ for a stock rb26dett could be better spent on a sr20 + a dick load of mods and end up lighter.

but yes for the money VQ-TT would have been easier and better bang for buck.. but how many sr20 35's do u see.. originality FTW

a 35 wouldnt be all that much more heavier than a s200sx

The RB26 is an iron blocked inline 6. The motor would be essentially TWICE as long as the aluminum V6 it replaced. Terrible choice IMHO. Nice motor. Just not worth the penalties associated with it.

If presented with a swap, yeah, I'd go LS2 motor. oem 400hp/torque bone stock. Probably 50 more hp easily with headers/cam/tune.

As far as iron 6 cylinders go, I'd go Buick GN turbo V6. Yes iron but in a more compact package than the inline 6. And it's 3.8 liters has over a 1 liter displacement advantage over the RB26

^Headers cam and tune on a LS2 would easily go 50 HP, prob a lot more. Those motors respond soooooo well to simple bolt-ons. I thumbed through a book on tuning LS motors on time back when I had the TA. I was shocked how much you could get just from stupid simple stuff. I wish the VQ was that easy to get power out of

From a displacement point of view, the ls motors aren't putting out that much hp. That's why there's alot left in the tank. But the VQ has been pretty good about putting good hp/liter so that's why finding hp is difficult and expensive.

BUT tuning for domestics has always been alot cheaper. AND domestic automatics that are TCM controlled get engine AND auto tranny programing options. THAT pisses me off more than anything else.

^I guess that's true. I suppose I tend to forget about how much less displacement a VQ is. I wouldn't care all that much about tuning an AT on an LS motor, they're sooooo much more fun with a MT anyway. I do wish the Nissan AT could be programmed though.

all very sweet, just not feeling the gtr bumper, also I didnt think the SR20det ever came with an aluminum block, I thought the aluminum block was only on the later USDM NA-Sr20de and the high revving JDM SR20VVL?

Wow. Those fenders aren't exactly cheap. 45,000 Yen ~ $500 + you got to ship them from Japan
