Skyway's Build Thread

So I had two rod bearings disintegrate. I found big chunks of metal in my oil pickup
Not good. It was either replace the bearings, rebuild the engine, or buy another one. My engine has 115,000 miles and burns oil pretty bad so just replacing bearings wouldn't have fixed that. I really wanted to rebuild but the machining costs were going to kill me so theres only one option left. Buy another engine. This time though, it isn't going to be stock.

I have already pulled my engine out of my car and stripped it down to the shortblock. I have been in contact with import parts pro and will be purchasing a stage 1 built N/A high compression shortblock. I shipped my block out this morning and it will be arriving in spring texas next thursday (damn you labor day!).

I will be sticking with stock heads for now but I already have a lot of bolt ons. I'm going to be shooting for 350 crank hp and then later on down the road, a 75 or 100 shot of nitrous!

I will be updating this thread with pictures and progress as I install the newly built engine. I have some pictures of pulling the old one out so I will throw them up in a couple of days.

Truly going to be epic (at least for me!) Stay tuned...

Here are some pics of the engine being removed

Could we get a current engine mod list vs future plans?? Want to compare the numbers.... and thanks, sounds like you have a couple of us that are living vicariously through your build! Good luck!

I only took 5 pics while pulling the engine, I just wanted to get it out of there as soon as I could. I will be updating this thread as I progress more. It will take around 2-3 weeks for them to build the engine so there is gonna be some down time, nothing I can do about that.

As far as cost goes, I haven't even ordered anything yet. It cost me $215 to ship it down to texas, that's all I've spent so far. The built shortblock is listed at $2600 on their website. There will also be miscellaneous items like gaskets, oil and filters for break-in, etc. So far I'm expecting somewhere between $3000-3500 for a total price. I will include cost of each item in the updates.

Current mod list:

Engine

Stillen cone air filter
Stillen z-tube
Kinetix V+ plenum
Kinetix HFC's
Megan Racing o2 sensor spacers
Custom Magnaflow dual cat-back with x-pipe

Suspension

Greddy Type S coilovers
Moonface Racing roll center adjusters (extended ball joints)
Energy Suspension poly compression rod bushings
Hotchkiss Sway Bars (front/rear)
Powergrid adjustable sway bar endlinks (front only)
SPC toe bolts
Battle Version rear camber arms

Wheels/Tires

350z 18" touring wheels
255/40/18 Continental Extreme Contact all seasons (all around)

With just the air filter and cat-back I put down 245 hp and 222 tq on a mustang dyno. After the hfc's, z-tube and plenum I would assume it would be around 260, if not higher. It pulled on a lot of cars it shouldn't have!

I have an rps lightweight segmented flywheel that will be going on the built engine. Future plans will include headers, rps clutch kit, tune, nitrous and maybe a better exhaust. I'm going to be doing a lot of little things too, like simplifying the coolant lines and removing an idler pulley.

My sedan needs a motor too. I couldn't find a motor so picked up a cheap car on craigslist to hold me.

Im kind of the on the fence, im tempted to get a mildly built motor. Definitely cant wait to see you build finish and hear your thoughts.

Nice! I'm only getting a shortblock, but congrats on the purchase! I do plan on getting more bolt ons, but there is no timeline on when they will all happen. It will be later on down the road for sure, this build is already gonna financially kill me. My future plans are listed on my previous post. I think I forgot to add cams and head work to that list, but those will most likely be done at some point.

Tell me about it! I'm driving a AT 2000 Altima with faded paint.

Can't wait to get back into the G but need to save up more money and do more research.

Nice. What compression will you be running? Are you expecting 350 crank with the nitrous + mods?

11:1 wiseco pistons. I'm expecting 350 with the high compression motor and all the bolt ons I have. Nitrous will add additional hp.
