infiniti g progression thread

Updates 11-12-12 and some better pictures at post #13 and #21

Well I finally have enough mods to justify a progression thread for my car so here it goes. My car was purchased brand new in 2002 from the dealership by my dad with less than 100 miles on the car. When he brought the G home from the dealership I was only 10 years old but i was still infatuated with it. Me, my dad, and the G went all over the east coast travelling for hockey tournaments which just further increased my love for the car. Around 2009 when i was 17 I was looking around for cars to buy after finally saving up enough money to buy a car. I had been sharing the G with my dad in the meantime but i though no way in hell would i be getting a car that nice for my first car.I got very lucky and my dad decided that after 7 years it was time for him to move on. So he offered me the G at a great price and of course I bought it. That first day of ownership for me was awesome. I took the G outside and did a complete detail spending almost 8 hours straight cleaning every part of the car. So after that back story on to the pics.

My first mod was the metra kit with a pioneer deh 6000 headunit and rockford fosgate subs. (Yes I was in high school and new nothing about real modding at this point)

After this I didnt really do much to the car for a while. I was on g35driver.com but being in high school and being consumed by sports I had no time for a job or modding. The only thing I had done was 20% tint on the side and back windows with 32% on the windshield.

Once summer hit I took my first shot at modding. I decided i wanted to open the headlights and paint them black along with the grill. I also blacked out my taillights at some point along with the corners. I then got some 8k HIDs.

That was all the modding I had planned to do to my car. Then one day after spending too much time on driver I made an impulse buy and bought some 350z eibach sportlines. Since then it was all been downhill. I alos picked up some coupe sport struts paired with H techs with less then 10k miles on them to replace my worn out struts. I changed out the springs and threw them on. Also at this point I decided that if i am capable of installing a mod with the tools I have I would do it myself. Most of my projects have all been by me. It has been a steep learning curve since I dont have any prior experience with working on cars.

My next mod is one that I am very proud of myself for accomplishing. I came accros a very good deal on some morimoto mini H1s that were brand new and i couldn't pass it up. So I embarked on a projector retrofit. This was by far the hardest mod I have done on my car. It was a real bitch. It took me almost 12 hours to complete. It was especially hard since I had no real idea how to retrofit and was just winging it. They ended up turning out great.

I got a good deal on a coupe midpipe so i picked it up and put it on. I took off the axleback muffler to see how it sounds and to my surprise it sounded perfect for my standards on exhaust. Then I went ahead and got the N1 lip and really fell in love with it. Although when i got it the lip had bent in the box and had stress marks so i had to plastidip it. I ended up losing the first lip on the highway due to stress tears on the sides where it mounts to the bumper.

These were the last mods I had done before I left for the entire summer to go work in Maine in between school terms. I ended up working two jobs the entire summer saving up for wheels. During the summer I spent countless hours researching wheels, offsets, and tire sizes. I came across an amazing deal on tein comfort sport coilovers that I couldnt pass up. I ended up buying them and putting them on my car when I got back home. I rode on those for a little while and decided that the ride was too soft and did not fit my needs. I sold those and got myself a nice set of brand new BC coils with a 12k/10k spring rate.

Then came my decision on wheels. I was set on getting the varrstoen 1.1.2s for my G but after calling around to order them I discovered that they were out of stock everywhere and wouldnt be back in stock for almost 3 months. So i said screw that and went with my second choice which in the end I am grateful I did. I went with Concept One RS-8s in hyper silver. Im so happy I went with this choice instead of the Varrstoens. I have fallen in love with these wheels and every time I pull into meets I get compliments or questions about them. I would like to thank b2autodesigns for helping me get my wheels and g35sn00p for helping me figure out what offsets would suit my needs. I unfortunately dont have any pictures of the wheels before they were mounted.

Here is a picture of the wheels I chose all mounted and sitting on the ground. I ended up going with a 19/9.5 +17 with 225/35 in the front and 19/10.5 +25 with a 245/35 in the rear.

A week later I picked up some Team Hekko window visors and I took the tail light tint off of my car. Then after messing with the preload a little bit I slammed the car another inch. I drove it around the parking lot once and after rubbing the front fenders on every little turn i decided i had to raise it a little bit.

Before raising it up.

It has been a long road with countless amounts of hours working on the car and thousands of dollars spent but I am enjoying every moment of the journey. I would like to thank the g35 community and this forum site for being so helpful and welcoming.

Stay tuned for more updates

Thanks for reading

It'd look way better painted and the rest of the lower mouldings color-matched as well.

To OP: you ever thought of doing your roof in gloss black vinyl? I'll be doing mine soon but I have an IP sedan.

Thanks guys. Adro the car is actually going in for paint within the next two weeks. The lip and all of the lower molding/sills are getting color matched to the body. The roof is getting sprayed gloss black. The grill and headlights are getting resprayed to gloss black along with the wheel wells getting cleaned and painted gloss black. The front bumper is also getting repainted. Im very excited for everything to get painted.

Thanks all and BlkSedan4me the plan was hikkatadori but once I had the money for it the funds had to be used somewhere else. In the process of saving for the hikkatadori again though. The car is going in for some paint work this weekend. I am hoping it all turns out nicely.

UPDATES 11-12-12

The car went into the body shop this weekend for lots of paint work. I got all of the ugly black lower sills matched and the lip painted to match the color of the car. Then i got the roof painted black along with the headlights and grill getting resprayed to gloss black. I am extremely happy with the way it turned out. It completely changed the look of the car.

When the sedan is slammed imo doesn't need the lip. But the car does look a ton better with the matching lower trims
