2004 g35 sedan saved from being junked 😁
Hi guys, total noob in the infiniti world but I'm here to get some insight and ideas for my new g35 sedan.
I'm a body work specialist/weekend mechanic and I came across a 2004 sedan that was hit pretty bad in the back and was about to be junked due to the owner not having insurance and not being able to pay to have it fixed, it's still got a clean title since it hit a containment wall buts got 185k on the clock now... I gave 1000 for the car and it drives and does everything it should but it's wrecked in the trunk area, I managed to buy a rear clip from a 06 for 500 with lights and everything and I'm in the process of making one out of the 2 plus I've been buying some audio to put in the car. Ps. If this is not the correct place for this thread please let me know where to move it and I hope I get some insight and ideas for my build. Thanks a lot and appreciate the ideas you guys might have for me new little black beast. |

Here are some pictures of the car the day I got it and how it is now.

Attachment 186358 Attachment 186359 Attachment 186360 Attachment 186361 Attachment 186362 Now this is the donor car for all the parts... Attachment 186363 Attachment 186364 Me and the guys at the shop doing some after hours cutting 😁😁 Attachment 186365 Attachment 186366 Rear clip done! Attachment 186367 Attachment 186368 Attachment 186369 Now to prepare the receiving car... Attachment 186370 Attachment 186371 Attachment 186372 Attachment 186373 That's what I've done so far so it's pretty much a blank canvas to go crazy with it... I'm doing a single quad coil 15" sub in the back with 4 6.5 soundstream pro audio 170rms for the doors, a single 8" soundstream pro audio 230rma where the bose sub used to be and 4 soundstream 1" titanium tweeters @110rms per pair and passive crossover... For amps I'm using a visonik 4000xd old school for the single 15" sub (concept csp-15 quad coil each coil 1000rms), for the 4 6.5's I'm using a re xt1600.2v2 which is one of the last decent re series, for the tweeters and the single 8" I'm using a re xtx500.5 and I might later on add some more mid speakers in the trunk but dunno yet, later on I'll add Picts of the sound goodies. |
Good on you to take on such a challenging project, but,,, I would strongly recommend not even thinking about audio until you get the body work and mechanical sorted out. It does have a lot of miles on it, so mechanical is also of a concern, not just body work/rebuilding. Audio would be the last thing I'd think about.
|
Yeah, pretty cool project you got there. Definitely something to be proud of once you're done.
|
Thanks, the audio is going in after I fix everything but my main concern is the engine... What sort of preventive maintenance should I do to make sure I keep it running for a little longer ?? There's no check engine light, car starts and runs like a champ, burns out like crazy and sounds great but I'm not sure if the timing chain and other stuff need to be changed to keep it in good condition.
|
Damn... If hit a containment wall!?
Looks like a great deal is in progress. At 200K miles you are going to want to do the obvious fluid changes (EVERYTHING). Transmissions are ehh on these cars so only do a drain and fill over a few thousand mile interval. No tranny flushes. 04 manual sedans did not have an oil burning issue. Always advisable to keep an eye out. Also I've never seen a rear clip floating like that so TIL...! Keep us updated on the progress. I would avoid audio though as it will end up costing more than the value of the car for a kickass system :). I wonder if it would have been hell to replace the front clip on my old sedan now that I want back :(. |

A front clip is relatively easy on this cars as the radiator support is all plastic and pretty much bolts on. As far as audio I have a decent system it's not gonna win any db drags but it will sound nice.
Speakers are. X4 Soundstream smc.654 Attachment 186301 Attachment 186302 X1 soundstream smc.804 This one goes where the bose 8" sub goes and I haven't received it yet. 😑 X1 Concep csp-15 4000 rms quad coil sub. Attachment 186297 Attachment 186298 Attachment 186299 Attachment 186300 I'm a little bit exited... The car is being pulled either Saturday or Monday and after that the new parts are gonna go on. |
Looks like you're in balls deep. If you can take some pics of the reconstruction process, I'm sure it would be of interest to many including myself.
|
Of course I will, it has slowed down quite a bit because I messed up my shoulder about a week ago and can't really use it much but hopefully Saturday I'll be able to do something with it... Once the chasis pulling machine is empty at the shop I'll put it right in and pull it.

damn bro.. i know money might be tight, but you drinking jungle juice? :D

I wish I could have some jungle juice right now but Percocet doesn't mix well with it 😁😁!!
Quick off topic note, would you guys be interested in a little write up on how to do molded fiber glass sub boxes?? I'm right now doing my friends pos (94 celica) and well I decided to fiberglass 2 sub boxes to maximize trunk space, if you guys are interested I can do a little write up just let me know. Here are some Picts... Attachment 186280 Attachment 186281 Attachment 186282 Attachment 186283 Let me know guys. |
Looking good so far! Whereabouts in Jersey are you? Do you still have any parts left on that '06 that you cut up? I could use the weatherstripping from the left rear door if it's in good shape.
|
I believe I still do have the weather strip and let me know if anyone is looking for a rear diff or brakes let me know.
Btw in in jersey city |
Nice idea on the sub boxes. There is a company that made something called the 4080 box that was built with the ideal sub in mind for coupes and sedans. They are out of business though and there is a company, Zenclosures, that makes wood boxes (meh quality).
Nice idea on fiber glass. |

Thanks!! That's why I said that if you guys find it interesting I can do a step by step on how to make them and it applies to all cars. .

Long story short I was hospitalized for a few days so no progress on the g for at least 3 days but yesterday we started working in it again, left quarter panel is straight just have to cut the part where the tail light mounts so I can weld the new one in place. As far as the right quarter panel goes everything is cutte out, chassis is pulled, the door almos closes normally etc... Here are some Picts.
Attachment 186166 Attachment 186167 Attachment 186168 Attachment 186169 Attachment 186170 Almost the whole trunk area of this clip in going in my car. Attachment 186171 Attachment 186172 That's progress as of yesterday... I'm heading to the shop again today to work on it again and maybe cut up the parts I need from The rear clip etc. I'll keep you guys posted. |
that's pretty nuts work.but I think it woulda been more worth it if the engine had less miles
|

Yes you are right but at the same time I'm only spending around 2000 including the parts and the car which is not that bad, that's the price of a beat up pos with no style or a honda.
As far as progress I completely dismantled the rear clip and now I'm working on having everything mocked up by Saturday or maybe even welded who knows. Here are some Picts of yesterday's work. Btw... Anyone needs a rear diff or brakes or any diff sensors?? I got stuff for sale including a back window. Attachment 185974 Attachment 185975 Attachment 185976 Attachment 185977 Attachment 185978 Attachment 185979 Attachment 185980 Attachment 185981 Floors and everything else is ready to be mocked up/welded to the car... Today's goal is to clean the area in the car and start doing that. As always I'll keep you guys posted. |

Well I'm back with some more updates... Here's what I did today.
After pulling and I saw that it didn't come out quite right I cut out this section and started replacing it. Attachment 185959 Attachment 185960 Marked line of the area to cut... I removed this from the rear clip I bought. Attachment 185961 Area ready to receive the new part. Attachment 185962 That looks like crap!! Attachment 185963 And the new part getting marked to be cut. Attachment 185964 Attachment 185965 Attachment 185966. Attachment 185966 And I also started cutting down the chassis to replace it with the one from the rear clip Attachment 185968 That's today's progress, tomorrow I'll do It again and hopefully I'll be able to weld the part. |
nice man in to see how this turns out.

Ok so I made some progress today... No day off for me but car is taking shape.
Attachment 185882 Attachment 185883 Attachment 185884 Much needed break of the day!! Attachment 185885 And more work... Attachment 185886 Attachment 185887 Spare tire floor is in. Attachment 185888 And test fitting the new quarter panel and fine cutting. Attachment 185889 Attachment 185890 Attachment 185891 If you look close you'll see that the quarter panel sits on top. I was taking measurements and fine cutting to make it all fit properly. Attachment 185892 Attachment 185893 Attachment 185894 Test fitting the trunk. Attachment 185895 Attachment 185896 Attachment 185897 And that was pretty much all for today.. Believe it or not it took me the whole day from 10 am to 8 pm to get to this point and yes everything is being held by screws because it's not properly aligned. Next step is to have everything align properly including tail lights and everything and once I'm sure it all fits properly I'll move on to welding the whole thing. If you guys have any questions please feel free to ask them and if you have any suggestions don't keep them to urself!! And as usuall... I'll keep you guys posted. 😁 |
wow man this is intense. keep up the good work
|
This thread deserves more attention than it is receiving... Nice work. What wheels are going to fit up that wide body?

Agreed. Who doesn't love a slow drive-by gawking at blood and guts? But you don't usually get the chance to watch the surgeon stitch them back together again. In for updates.
Much of an update but today I was getting all the kinks out of the trunk lid fitment and the door... I'm gonna need a new door and I hope it's coming in tomorrow morning... Here r some Picts of what I did today. Attachment 185866 Attachment 185867 Attachment 185868 Attachment 185869 Not much of a diff in the Picts but the fitment is way better and also cut down the quarter panel a bit more to get the door to close properly but after closer inspection the door is bent out of shape so new door. 😑😑😑 my pocket Does not like it. |
when u weld everything back how do u know that the back is straight with the front? like the aligment and body will be straight?

ok so big problem i was having with the left quarter panel is that it was too low... no matter how much i pulled and bent the chassis it was still too low and i had to go ti plan D... :icon43:
that involved cutting and manually moving the quater panel up... here the picts first the line where we are gonna cut. Attachment 185651 Attachment 185652 then we cut.. Attachment 185653 Attachment 185654 Attachment 185655 Attachment 185656 nice view with the bumper on.. :) Attachment 185657 Attachment 185658 Attachment 185659 after that we tig weld the whole thing again... Attachment 185660 Attachment 185661 sorry about my welding but the machine was acting up... we need a new regulator for the argon.. anyways Attachment 185662 Attachment 185663 Attachment 185664 Attachment 185665 Attachment 185664 and after some grinding... Attachment 185667 Attachment 185668 like nothing happend but we had to address the clearance between the qarter panel and the trunk lid which was to closed... so more cutting and welding. Attachment 185668 Attachment 185670 Attachment 185671 Attachment 185672 Attachment 185673 after that the taillight position has been moved so next was to square that off again and the rest is gonna be smoothed out with bondo... yes bondo. Attachment 185674 Attachment 185675 and nice and straight :D Attachment 185676 im gonna continue on monday... i was thinking on working on it tomorrow (sunday) but screw that i need some rest and my shoulder ionjury is killing me... hope you guys like the progress and as usual ill keek you posted.. |
Also here's a video of my car, stock exhaust and cats on but without the silencer.

anyways here's another update.. so heres me welding a patch in the left quarter panel because when i pulled it it kinda tore at the welfing spots.. Attachment 185509 and yeah, no trunk floor yet. Attachment 185510 Attachment 185511 so now to weld everything in place, i made metal "brackets" to tig weld behind the right quarter panel and to fill the gaps with weld. Attachment 185512 Attachment 185513 Attachment 185514 and we started bondo on the left side Attachment 185515 Attachment 185516 Attachment 185517 Attachment 185518 the machine is still acting up byt what the hell.. it sticks and its gonna be grind off anyways. Attachment 185519 Attachment 185520 Attachment 185521 Attachment 185522 Attachment 185523 Attachment 185524 Attachment 185525 Attachment 185526 Attachment 185527 Attachment 185528 and started with audio :D Attachment 185529 and this is me being retarded... one whole day of welding can have that effect on ppl... did the trunk floor... Attachment 185503 Attachment 185504 Attachment 185505 Attachment 185506 Attachment 185507 Attachment 185508 had to remove the bumper to finish welding the floor byt bow its done... still missing a few corners to weld in the right quarter panel but that will be on friday or saturday who knows. anyways thats all ive done so far, its looking good but cant wait to finish it. as usual ill keep you guys posted and let me know what you think... PS. i know the welds looked like crap before cleaning them, the effin regulator is done so it can be that at any given point you have too much gas or no gas at all :confused2: let me know what u think guys |
