Minor Crash =(

Hello everyone, this is my first picture post of my G' and under the assumptions of a "rebirth", I'd like to bring it back up from under the ashes.

The scene: Iced over roads, sport tires, no gas in the tank, snow mode off. This creates a very dangerous condition for the rear tires, with no weight in the back combined with icy roads will easily slip the X.

The story: Coming in late at night, getting off the freeway. The exit itself sees very little maintenance, no salting, and has a very deep slope followed by a sharp 90-100 degree left turn. Slowing down to about 30 MPH, right before the sharp left, I hit a patch of ice that sends the G helplessly skidding towards the wall. The slip indicator goes nuts as I apply as much countersteer and mashed the gas to try to peel it away. In the end, it hit.

The Pictures:

Lesson: Winter tires are a valuable safety margin and is a must have, no matter how much driving confidence one might have

Why did you have snow mode off when it was snowing?

Sorry to hear about the accident, it probably looks worse than it is, I'll say new front bumper, Side Fender, Lights, doesn't look like the bonnet is damaged.

What does the first picture show? I can't see any damage apart from that small part poking in the front?

I would have expected the X to handle better in the snow, I mean 30mph wasn't too fast was it? Was it because you had snow mode off?

Good question and thanks for the reply.

The first picture shows the degree in which the fender has protruded =)

It stopped snowing for a while, the majority of the roads are dry, but there are icy patches where the sun doesn't shine.

And yes, including all the parts you've mentioned the wiper fluid reservoir needs replacement as well.

pics as soon as its backed, washed and waxed =O

Winter tires dont help that much on black ice. This was just a case of poor judgement.

Sucks to see your car hurt though.

I see, the thing is I don't How snow mode on my car, so I'm not 100% sure what it does. Does it just make the wheels act independently or something?

Damn that sucks man, but why would you even go 30mph around a 90degree turn in bad waether conditions? I wouldnt even do that in the rain.

I would have considered it safe, especially in an X. If I was in a Quattro I'd probably be doing much more

AWD and the X model have no impact on turning or breaking...in any conditions. A significant quantity of winter accidents in my region (Colorado) occur because people assume that AWD can magically make their car handle better than everyone elses. In reality, it can only help you get moving forward better, and in very rare occurences, the front wheel power can help pull one out of a slide.

Turning and breaking are impacted by the tires you are using, speed, and traction, which are no different from a G Journey model.

+1000

I was scrolling down and would have said the same exact thing if I didn't see this post.

People need to learn to slow down way before a corner and then power through it to maintain control of a vehicle... any vehicle.

Sucks, but this is minor damage. Glad you are okay and yes, get some snows.
I've got a set of Blizzaks on my car and it has made a world of difference, but we still need to be careful.

What would you guys recommend as the best winter tire for the g35x? I've read around and found Blazzak WS-50's to hold up quite well. Is it good to have a separate set of wheels with winter tires on them? Or should I just change the tires every winter?
