Yep, I got an auto...well before you remove the center console part, you want to press the parking brake all the way down...then you wanna put the car to the ON position so you can move the shifter down to drive...if you leave it in park, the shifter boot piece is impossible to remove.

i didn't disconnect my battery when working in that area just because there's really no point...it would be the "correct" way to do things...kinda like how you're supposed to use an anti-static wrist strap when working in computers...i just ground myself to the chassis to eliminate electrostatic discharge when working on computers...good luck homie

Gotcha... putting the car in the "ON" position is basically pressing the button once or twice? I know if u press it once, the radio can turn on, press it twice, the dash lights up. Which one is it?

and no more pressing on the shift lock required then?

and then after I have removed the piece, do I then press the button again to shut it down and leave the car like that while I go about CF'ing it? lol

Thanks.

Wes

you could pull the little piece off the shift lock and push the button...that's not a bad idea, especially if you wanna disconnect the battery...but if you don't disconnect the battery, then shift lock button is not required...yep you're right about the ON position, hit the button twice and you're good

yeah after you remove the piece if you turn the car off while in drive, it'll just show up on the dash that the car is in D, but you'll be okay...this won't hurt anything...but the proper way to go about everything would be like you said...disconnect the battery, and use the shift lock button to move the shifter down into Drive...

After the trim is off;
put the shift **** back on & just use it as you normally would.

Now is it necessary to disconnect the battery before doing the shift lock business? Or can you go ahead and just do the shift lock and go about it?

Intgr - You can shift the shifter even without the housing around it?

the shift lock is used when your shifter can't move...when towing cars with dead batteries, the tow truck drivers will use the shift lock button since they can't turn the car on...there really is no point in using the shift lock button unless 1.) your battery is disconnected 2.) your battery is dead 3.) you lost your key and need to put the car in neutral for some reason...if you're not going to disconnect the battery, there is no reason to use the shift lock button

FWIW....
Generally speaking the only electrical connections that you should DEFINITELY disconnect the battery for;

...Are The ones with YELLOW CONNECTORS .
Yellow is a monitored cct & will trip error codes. (safety systems, airbags etc.)
