Serengeti sand with Black stockers

Hi all, I got my Serengeti Sand sedan a week ago. The OEM sport wheels need to be refinished. While I am at it, I was thinking of painting them. I just got tint done so was thinking black might look good on a SS with tint. Any thoughts?

SS seem pretty rare, I see a few threads of some SS pics, but still haven't been able to find an SS with black rims (painted stockers or aftermarket)

Thanks

Interesting an SS. Can't wait to see some pics of the rims on. If you're uneasy with spending money on the rims, pick up some cans of plastidip and test waters with that.

Yeah, I won't be spending money on new wheels anytime soon, so plastidip might be the way to go. When I first heard of plastidip, I thought no way, but for the price, I'm thinking of trying it out on the stock wheels. I see plastidip has their own spray to add the gloss, I wonder if thats cheaper/better than some clearcoat.

Well, I have tried lots of stuff to get the crap off my wheels without success. I sanded a couple spots and it got the black crud off, but also took some of the finish off when I went a little too far. So, to avoid the pain and time of complete refinishing them, I am going to plasti dip the wheels tomorrow. Then if I don't like the black look, I am going to either do Duplicolor silver or graphite.

I'll like the silver for sure because its oem like color, but the graphite may be better?!? Anybody think the graphite will look better on my SS?

I went ahead and plastidipped them today. The intent was for a few coats of plastidip then I chose the duplicolor silver to finish them. After 3 coats of plastidip, I decided I'll leave them black for a couple weeks to see if I like them. If not, I'll do the silver or maybe exchange the silver for graphite. If i do like them, I plan on getting some clear coat to shine the black up some. Here are some before pics

Here is a pic after coat 1 and the final product after 3 coats. I'll mount them back up tomorrow and take some better photos with them on the car.

I love those split 7 spoke sport rims, the nicest looking oem sedan wheels IMO. Much nicer than the current 17 & 18" sedan wheels for sure!
I've gone through the plastidip thing and it's a cool option to see if you like a certain look on your car, but not too great when it comes time to clean them and they do tend to peel in spots if they get nicked or a rock hits 'em. I think you'll like those black wheels on your SS. You might want to check a couple of my DIY threads if you want more black trim items, both are pretty easy and very nice on the wallet. With your black rims it would go nicely IMO.
Oh, and when the time comes to do something more permanent w/ those great looking wheels I'd invest a bit of coin and get them powder coated, they'd look incredible!

I've always wanted to powder coat my wheels on other cars, but haven''t actually called around to find out the cost. Any ideas how much it usually runs?

You should be close to some big metro areas so you might be able to get the set done for $500ish. You might post a question in the wheels section, maybe someone if FL has a good source.
