My FIRST post, FIRST 2008 G35 sedan and FIRST mods
Well, I bought my first G last month and super happy with the car so far! Fast, smooth and fun to drive. A 2008 G35 Sedan Sport Auto. 84k mikes
I've been searching through threads here for the last month and gained so much information from you all and previous posts. What a great site!
The car started out completely stock and just couldn't wait to start making some necessary changes and maintenance items. I did All these things myself which saved me $$$$ big time and much satisfaction. I think it looks like how it should have come out from the factory. The new cars being produced have so many of these changes built in them now. Anyway, I think it looks pretty good and wanted to share with you all.
First things done:
-Remove throttle bodies and cleaned (didn't disconnect but still had high idle for a little)
-Seafoam intake and in fuel (idles smooth now!)
-Mobil one oil and Nissan filter
-Trans drain and fill (next one at next oil change) Nissan Matic-S
-One wheel bearing
(Next is differential oil and radiator flush)
Interior:
-Replace the scratched steering wheel bezel and door pulls. What a difference and all feels fresh and new again.
-Full clean and detail of the light grey leather
Exterior:
- Front Nismo Chin Spoiler
- Rear G37 Spoiler with added back-up cam (these cars a bitch to see behind) OEM
- Set of M35 19" sport wheels and 20mm spacers OEM
- Eibach Pro kit springs
- Tinted windows
- Lightly tinted rear tail lenses to take off the sharp factory red
- Opened headlights and painted (little different)
- Rewired headlight so light and amber (now red) come on together....my running lights!
- Blacked out the top with gloss vinyl (removed shark fin first for ease) Still a pain to do!
- Vinyl rear diffuser area Matte/satin
- Painted front grill (left chrome edges) plastidip
- Debadged rear Infiniti
- Platinum paint got the full treatment with clay bar, 3M compound buffing, polishing pad, then wax. Paint is slippery smooth now.

I've been running Mobil 1 with no engine problems for the past 40k miles. Have not seen any engine problems as of yet and no oil consumption.

Really nice looking G, the M wheels go great w/ your car. IMO you'd be better off w/ Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra and go w/ the larger M56 oil filters (I use the Bosch Premium filters). I've had stellar UOA going w/ that combo for my 07 G35 and my current 09 G37.

Good job on the car so far. Like the "Stock" look of the car. I do recommend the M56 larger oil filters. I usually use Pennzoil Platinum and Mobile 1 oil (which ever is cheapest) and got good results. I do know there were some oil anaylsis done showing that Pennzoil platinum being the best for VQ engines but I think its mostly a personal preference.

Thanks guys! I like the idea of the bigger filters. The stock ones are some of the puniest I've seen for a car. Especially compared to the massive one that goes with my diesel Ford Excursion!
I really like the look of the M wheels too. A littlie more aggressive than the Coupe 19"'s. The best part is they are not staggered and can actually save some money in tires by being able to rotate and reduce the speed of feathering or worn edges. The stock 18" sport wheels I took off were staggered too!
I'd be okay with aftermarket but they all seem to be pretty expensive for decent quality. Keepin these for a while....

Welcome to Driver! Very nice and super clean sedan, although I could do without the red in your headlights. FYI the oil comparison chart I have shows AMSOIL 5W/30 leaves fewer deposits than any other synthetic. I also use WIX filters, they're known to filter better than any other filter. Pennsoil, I wouldn't use that in my Honda! (lawnmower)
