Winter is almost here - keeping your car clean?

...I'm from the Chicago burbs, just wondering how you all plan to keep your car clean during the winter? Car washes are out of the question (those guide rails will destroy your rims - see my post in Wheels section for pics), and those few car wash places that offer hand washes are like over $30! I'm dreading myself giving my car a "sponge bath" in my freezing-*** garage, but as far as I can tell that's my only option....sigh...

Get a winter beater. That's my plan for now. Salt is a killer out here. I can't bare to see my baby dirty for a day, can't imagine how it would be in the winter whe it would have to be dirty most of the time. UGH!!

BTW what suburb you from?

..yea. But are you really gonna use those manual wash stalls when it's 10 degrees outside? I don't know about you, but me and water don't mix too well when it's below or near freezing.

btw I'm from Bartlett area, but will be moving to Geneva area in November... seeings lots more coupes out there these days..

There are a bunch of TRUE hand car washes in or by Oak Park....$15 for a full detail and if I go before work..$10!!! They even air hose the excess water after drying so not even a drip when driving away! Shop around by where you live via intranet yellow pages and see.

Re: Winter is almost here - keeping your car clean

I just bought a neon undercarriage kit. I hooked it up with 25g wire all around, so it heats up as the alternator gets going... I then bought a Tornado (IT REALLY WORKS!!) and re-routed the extra airflow it generated to a skirt I fabricated on the front and sides of the car. As I drive along, the snow is melted by the underbody kit, then the salt and excess moisture is blown away by the skirt. Pretty cool setup.

Either that, or I just drive my SHO if it's too nasty out.
