Re: recommend attorney?

i just went to court for that. All you have to do is go to that court any day before or the day that the fine is due and tell the circuit court secretary that you want to ask for supervision. I found out last time that if you get there early you can speak with the states attorney and ask him for court supervision so that you don't have to stay for the entire court time. It's usually like a 90 fine plus court fee depending on the judge and your previous record.
Can you tell I've done this a few times. Luckily I have gotten out of all my speeding tickets with court supervision or traffic school. It all depends on the judge and admit guilt. As long as you get the supervision and you don't get any other tickets within the supervision time, the ticket stays off your record.
It's a beutiful thing. Goodluck.

Re: recommend attorney?

Hope this helps, only reason you would get a lawyer would be if you were driving wrecklessly or had previous tickets

Re: recommend attorney?

I’ve never heard of asking for supervision. Is it kind of like being out on parole? Do you have any idea if this is unique to your state or if it’s a common practice? Thanks!

Look in your phonebook yellow pages under Traffic. There are usually several traffic law offices around town. They just call the DA and get the ticket reduced to a non-moving violation like a parking ticket. It does not go on your record and doesn't cost any points. It will cost you a little bit more than the ticket fine to get it reduced, but it saves alot of money in the long run for insurance rates.

Re: recommend attorney?

yeah i think i got the same thing as davey2003. when it was my turn in the line up (they make us get in a line on our way up to the judge), the judge asked, "driver history?" the lawyer (i had no idea where he came from) replied, "first time offender, your honor." hee hee, first in illinois, but not indiana. the clerk told me it didn't go on my driving record b/c i was given "supervision" by the judge. blah, i got another speeding ticket a few months after that, but 4 hours in traffic school took care of that one too.

Re: recommend attorney?

Make this real easy. No priors on your record....you only have to plead guilty and ask for supervision. The judge will give you either 3 months or 6months depending on how fast you were going and that's it. The fine will also be decreased to only $50. It happened to me 2x in Oak Park and went to Cook County court house in Maywood. Not a problem at all.

Re: recommend attorney?

wow what is the deal with that? so do you have one of those paper slips to show people you're licensed?

i remember that maywood courthouse parking lot. they had some pretty scary and super rusted out cars parked there. some made you want to get a tetanus shot just by looking at them.

Woah, why'd you have to surrender your license? I'm not getting that...

Re: recommend attorney?

i just never got a bond card... sigh. i'm driving around on my ticket and a passport as my photo id.

as for parking, i parked in the side lot before the right turn into the main lot. parked as close to the curb giving the person parking next to me atleast 3 feet of my spot.

Re: recommend attorney?

good choice. i've done both the sit-down course (in chicago) and the internet one. i'd much rather do the internet one because you don't have to sit there for 4 hours straight to some guy lecturing as you and the class finish the driver's workbook together.
