Route 44 between Martinsville and Franklin has had about 95% of it's length resurfaced. I drove the hell out of it last Thursday and had more fun than I've had in a LONG, LONG time. The asphalt is VERY fresh. Check it out——but keep it on the DL! Its the best alternative route when heading from Greenwood to all points southwest. If you've never been on this road you need to. It almost trumps Rt45 and Rt46 in Monroe/Brown counties now that it's resurfaced. Watch out for a couple negative camber turns and abrupt switchbacks immediately after cresting a couple of the hills. Get out there!
