A good chardonnay or pinot grigio is fiiiine. If you order a white zin, though... I'll be disappointed Might as well order Welch's grape juice.

Re: You all should be proud :)

If you're going the wine route, a nice dry red is the best any time.

Re: You all should be proud :)

A nice deep, dark Zinfindel is GREAT with a good steak or some Danish Havarti. Don't drink it by itself, though, your palet will dry up and you won't be able to speak for days.

I'm a peppery shiraz man when it comes to a good steak, as the combination of the juice, garlic smashed potatoes, and flavor of the wine is just soooo good. *drool*

[rant] I can't believe that so many wine "experts" are touting "drink what you like with whatever you want!"... it doesn't work that way. You wouldn't have a nice, freshly cooked piece of Mahi Mahi and follow it with a shot of tequila! They're only saying that to get people to stop feeling apprehensive about picking a bottle at restaurants, as it was hurting the wine industry. Any true somalier will tell you where to shove those "new" theories. [/rant]

Have you guys been to the Lynfred winery in Bloomingdale by Stratford Square mall? Highly recommend it. If your going to drink Vodka, you have to go Chopin, Grey Goose, Belvedere, and there is a fairly new black cherry vodka made by Efrin...awesome.

Re: You all should be proud :)

Well, it is a bunch of midwesterns talking about it so it is hard.... Could go either way. Maybe we are special in what and how we drink in the midwest and the off topic group won't get it???

Finally, I thought I was the only scotch-afficianado Red vino when I abstain from my soul-mate Sir Johnnie Walker.

Black label? Eh.. how about some 18yr Macallan or Laphroaig? Now THAT's an afficianado I've recently taken a shine to Argmangac and Obstler... now those will make your eyes curl back into your head!

I just knew that someone would jab me mentioning a scotch blend. In fact, I was just in Chi-town few wknds ago, & I stopped by Sam's Wine & Spirits and picked up a single malt 18yr Macallans (their staff is superb) quite smooth indeed and no eye-curl back effect. Also, IL is beaucoup cheaper for liquor than MI.

Re: You all should be proud :)

Hey, it's okay My sis got me a 18 yr Laphroig for Xmas, so she has earned my unconditional love. I've been educating my friend about scotches recently (highlands, lowland, islay, etc.), as he's trying to culture himself... either that or kill himself with a peaty scotch. I started him with club soda and blends, and am sloooowly moving him to single malts. Hey-- why waste a good glass on someone who won't appreciate it?

I bet the liquor's cheaper... in Nashville, they had a 9% sales tax and then additional 5% sin tax or something along those lines. I'd load up on liquor in Kentucky on my way back to Vandy from Indy, and then I'd be set for the semester... you can take a serious beating depending on where you buy.

Thats funny G. I get the feeling your talking about me. Anyway I'm trying, and I'm learning to appreciate it, thank you. Save a bottle for me when I fly out to Vegas in the spring. You may be surprised.
