hi,

does anyone know if there is a race track or 1/4 mi track near chicago area? how far is the closest one? are there any high speed tracks like nascar tracks (oval ones) where you can just go really fast? how much do you have to pay for using these tracks?

You can do test and tune 1/4 mile runs at several places. The closest to Chicago is Route66 dragway in Joliet. It's probably somewhere around $30 - $40 for as many runs as you can get in. There also U.S. 41 dragway (Byron, IN I think) and then there's Great Lakes Dragway in Wisconsin. A simple search (Google) for any of these should produce anything you need to know.

As far as oval tracks, I'm not sure if Chicagoland Motor Speedway ever offers a track day but that would be the closest. Other than that I'm not aware of any oval/twisty tracks that are very close to Chicago.

Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI has a twisties road course. I don't believe they allow the public to pay to run but here's htheir web site address. You can find contact info there.

There is Byron Dragway in Byron, IL about 11 miles south, south east of Rockford, right off of Rt 72. This is my favorite dragway, next to Great Lakes.
