Break-in period & Gas
Just picked up my '06 6MT Ivory Pearl /Stone/Nav/Aero. What's the dealio on the break in period? Is this a myth or should I drive under 3000 RPM's till I hit 1000 miles or so?
Also, since this is a lease, the dealer suggested that I fill up with 87 octane fuel. Will this hurt performance in the long run
Looking for your input ASAP as I'm dying to drive it "like I stole it".

since you leased it who cares what you do to it... most people only do the "break in" cause they bought the car and plan on keeping it for a while... and yes 87 octane will decrease the performance... for the long run i dont know

I believe in prudent driving for the first 1200 miles.
Enjoy, and welcome to G35Driver.

My dealer told there's no break-in period on these cars, it's already done
They test the cars on a track fresh out of the boat before they hit the Infiniti showrooms
I recall more than one dealer telling me the same thing actually
After I heard that I just couldn't resist bringing her up to 6000-6500 RPMs only a few miles after I left the dealer... even though she ony had 6 miles on her
Overall I still try to be gentle but man it just so hard to resist the calling...

Depends what makes you feel good.
Use the good juice tho....it'll treat you good in return.
Don't put a lot of faith in what the dealer says. Not sayin' yours doesn't say it like it is, but some of them don't know their butts from a hole in the ground.
Enjoy the ride man.....she's a honey.

I broke mine in properly...keep it under 4000 RPM's for the first 1200 miles

You shouldn't baby or push it...
For 80% of the time, RPM's should be 4,000 or below...but you should gradually open the engine up as well (20-30% throttle), it won't hurt it.
It's not about getting there quickly...open her up slowly.
Hope this helps...
Regarding gas, use 91 because the car has a map for it.
I like to get optimal performance out of my car, whether I'm going to be driving it fast or not...it's all a matter of a few bucks.

Brake in perioud is a MYTH. Not sayin go rape ur car from the first day u get it.
87 octane fuel is for car that have 180 or less HP. Don't ever do that to ur car.
