g35c vs 350z

I'm going to sell my '02 c240 sport 6MT soon and I'm leaning towards a g35c or 350z. Tranny has to be 6MT. I'm basicly looking for a reliable and low maitenance car to use as daily driver. Most probably it will be used, my max is $25k.

I did a search about common problems the g35 has like the light paint used on the car, the leather seat get scratched too easily, the power seats and sunroof moves slowly also theres a slight grinding noise once clutch is engaged.
Is that mostly it?

I went to my350z and searched but I was not able to find any problems with the car besides the grinding noise once clutch is engaged aswell.

I know on this site will be more biased towards the g35 but I need your suggestions due to both cars a very similar from one to another.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Both cars are great to me it all depends on what you plan to do with it. they're both sport cars, but one is luxury and the other is not. whatever car you choose make sure you check the VIN for any recalls or TSB issues.

+1 and the G35C may be a bit more exclusive/unique depending upon your area. I think the Z to G ratio around here is 3 to 1 or more.

Yeah but the G is still EVERYWHERE. You deffinately don't buy a G/Z to be unique. I bought it cause it's an amazing car.

The g35 is 350z with backseats + luxury.

If you dont need/want backseats or luxury, then go for the 350z

The G is much more practical and worth every penny more than the Z.
Get the G, You'll be glad you did.....

I appreciate the replies.

Most of your post makes alot of sense. But I think I would need the extra 2 seats from time to time.

My budget will be $26k max. Could I get a good shape G 6MT with low milage?
I'm worried about the milage because I will keep this car for quite awhile till I finish school.

Give autotrader a whirl and see what kind of prices you see.

I'd go with the G35.. more practical due to backseats is true. It's more car in my opinion, although I love the Z as well. Both are great cars, but I see that you are willing to go the G way hehe. Well I dunno about $26k these cars don't depreciate so much so it's gonna be hard but you might be able to find an 03 or maybe 04 for that much, I dunno for sure tho.

check autotrader and the forums, you can find a good condition g35 with decent mileage in your price range. dont get overcharged, research what people are spending. also use kbb.com and autos.msn.com to make sure you're getting a good deal.

Since you're keeping it for a while you might go with the G. It has a longer warranty.

G35 has brake issues. If you can replace pads yourself, or have someone show you how (its pretty easy, even for a mechanical idiot like myself), then you needn't worry. If that is not an option, go to a place that will NOT replace the pads with Infiniti pads. Get something like Hawk or Axxis, or whatever and have them put those on (they may need to order them cause they might not accept you bringing some pads in). The 6MT wil have Brembos which are better and last longer than the regular infiniti pads, but you wil still run into the issue.

While the G has brake issues, Zs before '05 have suspension issues (according to consumer reports and other stuff that I have read)

OK, that aside, if you are buying used and want the car to last a long time, and be relatively maintenace free think about the following:

350z b2b warranty is 3yrs/36k miles
G35 b2b warranty is 4yrs/60k miles

Not sure about the drivetrain warranty on the z, but on the G its 6yrs/70k miles.

You can get the extended warranty on either, but I believe that you can get a longer one on the Infiniti.

That was really the deciding issue for me. I had $25k to spend, INCLUDING the xtended warranty. To get a Z still under warranty I was looking at '05s, and they were priced right at $25k (for under 36k miles). I could actually get an 03 or 04 g35 still under warranty for less.

As far as looks, I really liked the 350z. Very aggressive looking, very col design, almost "brutish" looking. Then someone turned me on to the G. It hass a more refined, elegant quality to it, and it's design & shape is less "brutish" and more of a work of art, IMHO.

If I got a Z it would have to be an '05 or later, and it has to have some warranty on it so I can get an extended one. For the G, any year is fine, and you are much more likely to find one with some warranty left.

Hope this helps,

Brain21
