13.4 Mpg?!?!?

I may have a bit of a heavy foot but I was getting 20-21 MPG consistently on my Acura TL. Now that I've switched to the G35x the computer pegs me at only 13.4 MPG. That's a significant drop in economy from 2 very similar cars and the same driver. Anyone else doing the same? I have yet to make my way through the first tank of gas that the dealer gave me.

I get 18-22 mpg at 1500km. I'm easy on the gas pedal though, especially during the traffic jam before a bridge and such. I never see a point in accelerating so much only to brake right away. I was getting 15 at around 500km and it's been getting better.

Where do they come up with the EPA mileage quotes then? Does my grandma work there testing the cars? I do notice that I step on the gas as hard as I did in my Acura but the car seems to take off so much faster.

I'm pretty sure the milage you see on the sticker comes soley from a calculation, not actual test data.

some interesting links

it is a real test, just not an accurate one.

I only get 11-12 MPG in my 6MT coupe. I also drive the car easy, never going past 4K RPM. I do all city driving, 3-5 mile drives at a time all on the streets. I'm in SF so I drive on hills as well.

I wonder how rich the A/F ratio on these cars are? Maybe an ECU retune will help. My previous turbo charged Subies were always tuned too rich from the factory, so it was easy to squeeze out more power/gas mileage by running leaner, by way of a retune.

I live in a rather hilly area and I've noticed the same...

The old "highway" number included a 0-50 accelaration time of 45 seconds

Something sounds wrong. I have a TT kit and do a lot of city driving. My MPG is still between 17-19 on almost every tank. I don't have a light foot either!

I agree...I'm getting about the same 18-22mpg but take it easy on the gas because of traffic. It's really pointless speeding and then having to stop with a bunch of people up ahead anyways.

Make sure you're manually calculating the MPG and not just using the gauge or the economy screens...
