6MT: kick after letting go of throttle?

Hi,
I've had the car for 5 days now. I've noticed that when I am cruising along leisurely at 40mph, say in 4th gear and giving a smidge of throttle, that when I let go of the gas pedal, it'll just coast and then 1/2 to 1 second later, I will feel a little "kick". The car is still in gear. What is this? Is this even normal. Mind you it is a mild "kick" but noticeable.

I've had my 6MT since December - 4,600 miles. I noticed the same issue and asked the dealer. Not a good answer, just "it's the drive by wire." I must be getting used to it because it no longer annoys me. I had to relearn how to go through the gears - letting off the throttle slightly sooner before depressing the clutch. Hope you're enjoying your new 6MT! Joel

Thanks Joel. This is my first drive by wire vehicle. I've never noticed it on my manual Maxima nor WRX. It is a minor annoyance if it is normal. Man, I definitely am loving this car!

One additional thought... My dealer suggested learning to position my fight foot with my heal close to the bottom of the throttle. This give you greater control over subtle changes in the "drive by wire" throttle. It's helped me.

I, too, am loving this car. My only modification so far has been adding some sound deadening material in the trunk, front wheels and the kick plates. It's made more a more solid cabin acoustic.

Like you, I've owned Maxima SE 5sps (1989 and 1997 with an 1995 auto (yuck) thrown in. My oldest son (25) has the 1997 5sp and is increasing the number of performance and suspension mods. It has almost 150 K miles and runs quite well!
