Another G35 Sedan owner joins the ranks

Hey everyone, found the site recently while I was out researching my first new car purchase...The G is not cheap, but its a GREAT value for the money!

I just signed the papers today and will go pick up the car tomorrow!

I got an '08 NAV + premium.

A few Qs:

1) Dealer says not to use synthetic oil, just about everything I've looked up on the interweb says sythetic is superior to conventional...What does everyone else use?

2) Dealer recommends oil change per 3500 mi. I drive 500 mi/week. I'll be changing oil every other month (ack!). And yeah, synthetic might help here.

3) Simoniz and/or clear shield: which yields the best protection for the buck? Can these be done aftermarket for cheaper?

4) Gas: Dealer says 93, consensus here is 91...What say you?

I'm thrilled and at once terrified at the prospect of upkeeping this wonderful car. I want to make the most out of my ownership!

You are right; thinking about maintaining this jewel is scary.

Congrats! Welcome to the club.

BS. Synthetic is fine. Just stick w/ the mfg's recommendation of a 5W-30 API approved oil and you will be fine. I plan on going synthetic all the way.

If you drive mainly highway speeds during your 500 mi/week, I would stick w/ the 7500 mi oil change interval per "Schedule 2" in Infiniti's maintenance guide. If you drive in stop and go traffic for those 500 mi/week, go with "Schedule 1" which calls for 3750 mile oil change intervals. The dealer's 3500 mi interval recommendation is just pulled out of their a$$. Stick w/ the mfg's recommendation and you will be fine.

No idea what these things are. If you are talking about a long lasting sealant for your car, I would recommend Zaino. That stuff keeps your car shining for a LOOOONG time.

Here in California, the best we can get is 91 octane. 91 is fine, but if 93 octane is available at a nominal cost, I'd get 93 octane.

Glad you're enjoying your new car. There's nothing to worry about in terms of maintenance. After all, this is yet another Nissan/Infiniti which will give you years of reliable, trouble free operation with regular maintenance. Once the car is broken in (after 1200 miles), take some opportunities to drive it hard (safely). This is a sports sedan which needs to stretch its legs.

Hi
Heres my take on synthetic Oil. I built an engine for my other car and all the
advise I got on Oil when i was building it was do not use synthetic until you
have about 10,000 miles on the engine. this is due to the synthetic oil being
too slick and not providing enough friction to get the engine to be correctly worn in.
(ie any sharp edges on the cam lobs or piston edges will not be rounded
correctly due to normal ware)
The advice I got was use normal oil for 10k then do an oil flush and then use
synthetic to prevent any more ware.
But of course I may be talking out of my A.s.s and others may know better.
but this is the what I plan for my cars

Welcome, Dharmaboi!

I just had my first oil change and the dealer said the G was designed to use regular oil. He told me they would put in synthetic if I wanted them to but it was not needed. Why argue?

My first oil change went a bit past 3500, I was at 4200. I will change it again around 7K.

I don't think I've seen 93 in Southern CA, 91 works fine.

Enjoy your new toy!
