Newbie - X or Coupe???
Newbie - X or Coupe???
Newbie here. My wife is needing a new car. Obviously, I'll be driving it as well, but it is primarily her ride.
She is a VERY performance oriented gal. Never had an automatic in her life (Dislikes them, actually), but isn't opposed to one for a G35.
We are a racing family - I road race motorcycles and do some MX riding. Our son is riding MX, as well and my wife has always been around it all.
So, my question is this:
We are looking at a used 2006 G35. We live in Ohio and the snow can get to a point where a few inches is norm to excessive (for us) in 6" plus... She drives on a two lane road all the way to work (17 miles) with our son on board.
She loves the Coupe. I do, too. We decided on the Sport package and either tranny.
However, I have been looking at the G35X and am intrigued. She isn't as much, but I think after seeing all the bad *** pics of owners' sedans, we could get a set of wheels and a few other goodies and make a timid looking sedan look pretty damn mean...
BUT, I am not sure on the X. Not sold on it, anyways, but if we are going to get a G35 and can choose between a sedan and coupe, aren't they both going to suck in the snow no matter what? RWD cars are not savy snow driving machines. The X would be a little better, but all in all, we understand that if we do a coupe, we need to buy spare wheels with all season or Blizzak type tires...
So, any insight is cool. We're looking to do something REALLY soon. We have it narrowed down to two coupes and I have been looking at Xs, but no Sport Sedans at all....

Because there could be 3 of you I would really suggest a sedan. Much easier to get the young one in the back and much more cargo space.
Whether you get the rwd or awd is up to you . The rwd does a good job with dedicated snows, but if you want that extra security of awd with your wife driving the young lad around, I would strongly suggest the X and it should also be fitted with dedicated winters.

i just picked up the coupe myself and I would say to go for the X if you're going to have the kid and healthy amount of snow. I'm from Boston but live in MD now, which is why I got the coupe. not much snow at all down here and no kids yet(that i know of lol) seriously though, the back seat in the coupe isn't too bad for someone small, so if you dont mind getting dedicated snow tires, i would say test drive both if you can, then decide
i finally tested out my back seat and it worked out pretty good. My friends girl who is prego and around 200 pounds bout 5'6 had no problem sitting behind my friend. I think you should be good on the coupe if you decide to go with it
+1 on getting sedan because of the little one... X or RWD, that's up to you, but I have no problems with our Chicago winters in my RWD with Blizzaks, so I think you should be fine too with the right tires. Yesterday, a GTO and a FWD Buick Lesabre all spun out right in front of me, but I was able to drive through carefully.... Anyway, have fun car-shopping
