New G35x Sport Owner
New G35x Sport Owner
I picked up my platinum silver '08 G35x Sport last Friday. The car is loaded with the exception of my not opting for the Technology Package (my salesman told me that it wasn't really worth the extra cost). The handling is incredible and I caught myself doing 120mph on the freeway yesterday when I thought I was doing 85mph. It's deceptively fast and stable.
The difference in ride quality between the G and my former '04 TL is marked. The suspension is not "squishy" and the "Swell" technology Infiniti promotes in their marketing material is real. No more head snapping starts, just smooth and unrelenting acceleration - it makes you feel like a kid again.
Thankfully, this was the first G35x S I've driven that had no howling or whistling coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. In fact, it's much quieter than my TL which had excessive tire and wind noise.
I had an embarrassing moment, however, when attempting to fill up for the first time at my local Costco. I couldn't figure out where in the hell they "hid" the fuel release lever until I called my dealer and he told me what to do. This is yet another feature on the car that's intelligent (obviously more intelligent and intuitive than I).
I'm averaging 16-17 mpg but it's my own fault. I can't seem to resist driving the car fast - it really does prefer to be driven this way. Kudos to Infiniti for designing a car with a true personality.
The sound system is excellent albeit different than the outstanding ELS system I had in my TL. DVD Audio is a great technology, but it has never taken off as anticipated and I therefore wasn't able to take full advantage of its capabilities due to a limited selection of cd's from which to choose.
I was able to get my G for $475 per month with $1,348 down (including first month's payment) and 15K miles per year for 24 months. I believe this to be a pretty good deal, though I did utilize the VPP I received through my employer as well as an additional $500 discount offered through Infiniti Finance. The only additional cost I incurred was $299 for the tire and wheel insurance package. I'm not sure I should have opted for this, but at what it would cost to replace a damaged rim/tire, it seems to be a fair deal. I leased my G through Pfeiffer Infiniti in Grand Rapids, MI. I first attempted to do so at Suburban Infiniti in Troy, but they never even bothered to call me back after offering me a "non-negotiable" $532 per month with the same terms. Pfeiffer threw in the all weather mats, wheel locks and trunk cargo net as well. This was the best dealer experience I've had hands down.
I do not believe there is any car on the market that comes close to what the G offers in terms of performance, reliability, features, resale value and price. Prior email correspondence with the auto writers at The Detroit News and Wall Street Journal helped me to make my decision.
