New from Tulsa, OK
Hey all,
After a recent wreck involving a 1995 chevy truck with 285k on the clock in which I had no collision (would you on something that old?) and the other, guilty party had no insurance PERIOD (a HUGE problem in OK btw), I had to start searching for a new car.
I was originally set on a Subaru Outback. I've liked the looks of them ever since they came out, and I loved the awd capability and large cargo space, but in my online searching of the used car lots, one car kept on popping up that caught my eye: Infiniti's G35 coupe. I really liked the Nissan 350Z when they came out, but most of the used Z's were newer and more expensive. However, the G's were in my price range, and I just couldn't stop staring at the curves of the coupe.
So I started test driving a few, and I'll admit, after driving AT's for years, I was getting used to the leisurely cruisability of an automatic (plus that 5 speed auto was one of the smoothest transmissions I'd ever driven, and my GF has a Murano with a CVT!). But after driving a 6 speed, I remembered how much I enjoyed gear-jamming on my trusty old civics, including a 2007 Si which was a fun step up from a normal civic.
I ended up going with a Laser Red 2004 G35 6 speed, and after a solid week of driving my 30 mile commute, around town, and a 2 hour road trip, I must say I am very impressed. The handling is great around corners, but smooth on good road (something OK is sorely lacking in). Sure, its "only" 280 hp, but its by far the fastest car I've ever owned (the chevy had more torque, but come on...). I've always been somewhat addicted to speed, and while I would love to drive the latest Lamborghini to get groceries, this is about 1000 times more practical, and about 100000 times cheaper.
In short, I came from a long line of fwd honda civics (which are awesome cars), to a high mileage chevy 4x4 truck (gas pig, but tough and reliable, and everyone and their dog knows how to work on small block chevy engines), now to this fine machine. I'm looking forward to driving it while its too cold to drive my motorcycle, and even a few times when it is warm enough - who doesn't like cruising around town, windows down, tunes cranking, riding with their girl/guy in one of the sexiest cars on the road?
