Newest entrant to the world of g35's
Just bought a pre-owned 2005 G35 sedan with some 93k miles on board.
A little history about myself and my car.
I am a Master's student in California and just got a job which is 40 miles away. Needed a car and started hunting for a BMW 3-Series. Infiniti was not a priority since i wanted something different from what my friends have.
Did lots of hunting for 3-series and read lots of stories about how expensive it is to maintain those once high miles are done. Since my budget was limited and primary requirement was a v6, i knew i was going to get high mileage car only. So decided to turn to Japanese and landed up with G35 sedan. Didn't consider TL, TSX. Briefly considered IS300 but it had some problems and was expensive.
Got this 2005 G35 Sedan from a dealer for $14110 out-the-door.
One thing i did as soon as i got this was to look for a good forum about g35's and i landed here. Found treasure of knowledge pertaining to g35 and i was very happy to see plenty of G35 enthusiast here. Thank you all for contributing and spreading the knowledge.
Have owned it for a week and here are my observations about the car
Pros:
- Sweet performance. Loves to be revved. Its very hard to keep it on leash
- Better features. (than my 98 camry of course)
- Love the leather seat and comfort.
- Exhaust Note. I fell in love with this. I would say one of the best exhaust.
- Like the handling.
- Good road holding manners at 80.
Cons:
- Fuel economy. Especially coming from a camry which touches 28-29 easily. This one is stuck at 20 only with 50% highway and 50% city - the same route i use to do in camry.
- Rattles a lot
- No storage space around drivers to keep mobile. Have to put it in cup holder.
- Ride is a bit harsh. I can feel everything on freeway and city roads.
- Uncertain about maintenance in long run. Planning to keep it for 5 years at least.
P.S: Most of the above points i have compared with camry since i drove that for more than 5 months and i liked it. Photos coming soon.

kbb.com in my area says its worth $15500 plus taxes & fees. I got it for $12500 plus taxes & fees. I observed that prices of all used cars have gone up. You won't believe, i was interested in a g35 coupe. A 2004, 85k miles done coupe was quoted $16k plus taxes and fees. Just an example, similarly all examples were priced high unless you get really high mileage ones like one with 120k miles.

I know its absurd comparing camry with this, but that's my previous ride. I am trying to get to terms with low gas mileage. Will soon overcome it since i love the way g35 drives and makes right kind of noises.

That's not a bad price either... especially from a dealer..
i just KBB'd my 2005 coupe with 74k miles in GOOD condition and $ 17,985 came up..
$18,935 in Excellent condition.. I consider mine Excellent
But If I tried to sell on Gdriver I would prolly get lowballed and flamed...

My friend bought a 2006 G35 sedan with 60k miles for $14k plus taxes and fees some 10 months back. Compare that to mine and you can see that market has changed a lot. Also most of the dealers and private owners are not willing to negotiate as they feel they can get price they ask. My dealer was asking $15000 but i managed to get him to $12500. On checking kbb i felt happy i paid around $3000 less than kbb if not more.

Mod bug has already hit me. Planning to get it debadged. Then put in a sub woofer and put in k&n air filter. this will be done over couple of months. I want to lower it, but i am not sure how the previous owner drove and how good the suspension is, so may be when i change it after 10k-20k miles, i will lower it.
