Smile New guy with a G here, WA state

Hi all. I have been posting a little already, but thought I'd say "hi". You guys and gals have tons of info here, so THANK YOU! I wanted to post up to gloat and complain at the same time. Nothing is perfect with any purchase

I bought an '06 G35 6MT in Athens Blue. 53,000 miles, aftermarket exhaust (not sure which one), AEM short intake, Premium package with Nav, and no spoiler It came with 17" wheels with snow tires. I have purchased G37 19" rims with tires, without TPMS sensors, from a guy on craigslist and then found out that 3 of the 4 tires had been slashed! The cuts in the tires could not be seen until they were filled with air. There is also a tear in the leather seat, which was supposed to be fixed by the dealership, but they forgot. It would be a waste of my time to drive an hour down, wait for it to be fixed, and drive an hour home. I'm not sure what I can do to pressure them to make it right at this point.

Anyways... I love driving the car, but hate parking it in public I don't even bring it to work. I just drive my old Civic for the short commute. The tint is dark (illegal), the body work is in very good condition, and it does not (yet) seem to be burning any oil. Wish me luck and thanks for listening to me rant.

Purchasing a used car is always fun! Just wait until you give it a real detail and you'll find every little chip/scratch front to back. I'm glad you enjoy the car and it sounds like you have money to spare for mods so lookin forward to seeing the build! Welcome

I am enjoying it so far but I wouldn't say that I have money to spare. I have wanted to buy this car for 7 years, and making due with Honda Civics. The first 6MT G35 I drove was in 2006 and I have been casually keeping my eye open for one since then. I was out of work for a long time but now I'm back in business. Let's hope it lasts

I really think this car should have come with a side-view mirror that tilts down when reversing and I really dislike the disabled Nav interface when moving. I wanted to update the clock for daylight savings time recently. It requires ONE button click. Too bad, Nissan says you can't do that while moving!!! I will have those issues addressed. I also want a backup camera wired into the Nav display. Or, maybe I should just replace the factory BLose double-din with a screen? I don't really want to lose the steering wheel controls. Does anyone know if there is a way to keep those with an aftermarket head unit? (yeah, I know, search) I will have to figure out if it is cost-effective to replace the BLose system while adding a backup camera. Options...

Sup Scott, Welcome to the fam! KP tech makes a module for the G that will tilt the mirrors for you when you reverse so it is easily within reach if you'd like that option! As far as backup cameras, I've never used em, but there are quite a few ways you can go about adding it to your coupe!

Car looks great, I hope you enjoy the heck out of it!

Also you may want to join the WA Facebook group PNW_INC to meet up with a great bunch of VQ enthusiasts (Z's in there too) But those guys are fun and get together anytime a sunbreak threatens to smash the gloom!

Keep us posted on your 19's install and that group can find you good folks to help work on the G (as needed)

Hey jooky. Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, I will definitely find the G guys/girls in my area to talk smack about our cars. The KP modules are exactly what I want to get and install. I just don't know what the installations will require. It's a little scary

I am totally enjoying the car already, even on snow tires! It's my first RWD car and I just love the feel of increased grip as you put the power down.

As far as the audio/video. I'm just thinking/writing outloud here...
1) keep stock BOSE and use Nav screen for backup cam
-requires an interface to feed video to the screen (~$400?)
-module to press OK and use Nav while moving, just because ($100)
-backup camera ($150?)
==$650 total

2) keep the Nav screen as is and install double-DIN head unit, and then upgrading the whole audio system
-double-DIN head unit with screen and interface for video (I don't know $600??)
-backup camera ($150?)
==$750 ...and then upgrade the rest of the audio system slowly as I go.

I've done car stereo work before, with amazing results, but I'm not sure that I want to dive into it again now. It consumes me for the duration.
