NYS '07 G35 Coupe..."UP FROM THA 36th CHAMBER"!!
Hey everybody,
I’m from New York State, and hail from another car site called ASEC -Avenger/Sebring Enthusiast Club. For the gear heads and car enthusiasts here, you might know the Dodge Avenger as the mixed bastard child of Mitsubishi. I had two of them, 1996 V6s. The first one had a 6G72 3.0L engine from a 2000 3G Eclipse dropped into it, and the second had the stock 6G73 2.5L. Sadly both have seen better days.
The Avenger is a wonderful ride, it's basically a second gen Eclipse, just slightly bigger. The only real downside is that there wasn't much power in the V6, and it was forever before we saw any real aftermarket support. With a **** load of tenacity and MacGyver-style ingenuity, many of us took to assimilating parts from our close cousin. One of the highest moments of notoriety was the birth of an AWD Dodge Avenger (4 cyl), by using the Eclipse GSX. Good times. Another momentous occasion, V6 owners witnessed the construction of the first (and to my knowledge THE ONLY) V6/ 5 speed Avenger from Disturbed Motorsports. TURBO on top of that. It was freakin' sick…and a testament to what you can do if you really put your mind to it. Unfortunately, to see any real gains on the Avenger platform, it took extensive mods, customization, and a small fortune. Even if you had all of that, the gains still didn't justify the cost. Putting in all that money and work only got you CLOSE to what a lot of newer cars were putting out stock. So like many others, I found myself at a point where I could keep working on what’s now a 17 yr old car, or trade up for a better platform. My choice brought me here.
It took me years to decide on a new car that appealed to me as far as power, aftermarket support, and general aesthetics while still in a decent price range. For a while I was on the 2009 4g Eclipse GT, but it's a little small, and eventually I gravitated to the 2007 G35. Stock it pretty much has everything ASEC ever tried to build an Avenger up to: V6 /290+ Hp, dual exhaust, decent suspension, 18-19" wheels, bigger brakes….and a 6 speed transmission. This was a BIG THING for me. V6 Avengers are automatic ONLY, which sucks if you love to drive stick. I came here a few times to learn more about the G35, to see what other owners thought about it, and what problems they have discovered (like the oil consumption), and the best way to handle them. HA!! If I'd known about the issues inherent to the Avenger platform, I might not have bought it in the first place!! I'll tell you now, it's QUITE an experience to have the ball joint on your ride separate WHILE you're driving. TWICE. I've read the reviews and on paper the G35 looks good. The very first time I test drove one, a 2006...the salesman left me alone in the car afterwards and I began to weep uncontrollably. There were issues with the condition of a number of G35s I found after that, but eventually I found a 2007 I was pleased with, and bought her.
Based off my experience with the Avenger, I'm trying to plot my "modding course" more efficiently. I want to research what some of you have done, and see what is, and isn't worth my time. Right off the bat I read a wonderful sticky on turbo choices and forced induction (thank you SlideFox), and I've noticed a number of you feel headers are a waste of time and money. It's good to know considering I once bought custom made V6 headers for my Avenger. I'm a bit more mature now from my ASEC days…so I'm no longer concerned with "going fast" and street racing. In my city there isn't much use for a modded 650+ hp machine. I'm no longer a Transporter, so I have no need to out race cops while driving backwards with a hot chick stuffed in my trunk you know? I really like the G35's stock configuration for the most part, and she'll be a daily driver all year except for the Winter. Power wise I wouldn't mind being able to get about 350-400 at the wheels, and tune the car for lower and mid range power. Like I said I don't race….but I do like the idea of being able to roast someone off the line at a light. I'm considering going in the direction of making a clean "show car". We’ll see.
As far as me personally?
My interest are as broad as the horizon. I can get into just about anything. If I don't know about it, I'd love to learn. My biggest interests lay with illustrating, writing, photography, shooting pool, music, and movies. I love to laugh, nice cars, and women with WICKEDLY awesome derrieres. If it matters to anyone, DefTones, Portishead, Wu Tang Clan, and Gorillaz share a four way tie for my all time favorite groups. I've been poking around here a bit, and I like what I see. I did a Google search for "what's the best year for the G35"...and of the three major G35 clubs, this is the only one that seem to offer any real useful information. I'm not knocking them, but the 6MT guys ran off topic for like…3 pages o_0
ASEC has been a great home to me (still is), and I've learned many things from the crew there, as well as making a number of good friends. So I'm hoping my time here will be equally educational and enjoyable, if not more so.
Cheers!!

P.S. This might be a bit early in the game, but I'm on facebook, xbox live, and the PS3 network as well. If any of you ever get the urge, hit me up with a message and invite, and I'll add ya.

Oh, I tend to be a little "information dense" with my posts sometimes, so I apologize in advance for that. Here's a couple pics of the ride. I just got her back to NY Sunday night, and sometime this weekend I'll take new and better pics as I go through the stages of any changes I make.
She still needs a name...

Hey appreciate the complements guys!
I personally prefer the clean look, but I have just a few more minor cosmetic changes I’d like to make before I start fiddling around under the hood. I’m really excited about it all. Still trying to decide if I want the 03-05 “ironing board” on it or not too. At first I was all gung ho about it…..but now the overall clean look is starting to grow on me. Of course you can’t see it in these pics, but the window tint is SUPER dark (possibly illegal in NYS?), but the ride looks good with it.
I’ll make it a point to continue taking picks with the changes as I go!
