new G35 owner from Carmel Indiana

About a month ago, I bought an accident free but not running, very neglected 03 G35 5AT with 220K miles on it from a friend of mine for almost nothing. It still had the original spark plugs on it. I was there when he purchased it brand new from a dealer and it is a real shame the way he kept the car for the last 10 years. But thanks to this site and members, it runs like a new car. I bought z tube and 07 coupe y pipe already and going to purchase MD 5\16 spacer later on. I have one concern. I have 09 Mazdaspeed3 right now and can not keep two cars. Which one should I sell? I want to keep the G35 but how reliable will it be down the line?

Welcome! Glad you restored life back into the G. Your question is "how reliable is the G down the line?" but you pretty much have the answer right in front of you. You've got one with 220k which is more than what most people have on their cars right now and it's still running great, but like I said already, it looks like your G has already been "down the line" and is reaching the end of its life soon. VQ engines are great but functionally speaking, I would keep the Mazda as it's got a much fresher motor and a lot more potential than the G (at this point).

Sorry about late reply. Weekends are always busy with kids.
About my G35, I know 220K mile is a lot but from what I know it is mostly from highway drivings.
My friend used it for his commute every day which was more than 120 mile. I was hoping to extract few more years of service from the G35. Plus I suley can use the money from a sale of my mazdaspeed3.

It is probably close to the end of the line...however the G35 is a much nicer car and if push comes to shove, you can always drop in a new engine for not too much of a set back...g/l

gialil21, those are my thoughts too. I don't know how much an engine or tranny rebuild will set me back, but as long as repairs are within a reasonable range, I like to keep the G35. Don't get me wrong, I like my MS3, but I really could use the money right now.

Well, my cousin bought a 350z in similar condition to your g35 but he decided to replace the engine altogether. He found the engine on craigslist for $700...yes only 700. It had small issues but it was a solid piece. Basically, if you have some decent DIY knowledge and are a smart shopper, you can rebuild your g without breaking the bank.
