Hello there! Soon to be G35 owner, checking in.

Howdy!

Figured I'd go ahead and introduce myself.

Hi, my name is John, and I like cars.

Now that that is out of the way....

Basically, my story is that I used to own a mustang, it was a horrible financial decision, and now I don't have it any more. I was hell bent on getting myself another one, and building it up, but it finally occurred to me that I could a nicer car, nicer options, and probably more reliable, for the same amount of money.

So I stumbled on the G35, and now I am in love! So now I'm here to meet all of you, and learn a thing or two in the process. I'm looking at a 2006, and a sports package? I mainly like the rims that come stock with it, as I don't want to buy a car, and then want to spend another $1500 on rims....

Anyways... Hello!

Welcome and good luck in your search, these cars are pretty reliable if you find one that has been well taken care of.

Welcome! I purchased an 07 G35x about a month ago and I'm still very much impressed with it. This site is awesome too! A lot of DIY info here to help you save some cash while having fun with your car.

Don't forget a clear CARFAX!!!

Welcome to Driver John! It's better to buy a car that's been garage kept and babied all it's life so look for a low mileage coupe with up to date service records and the best model year you can afford! Enjoy the ride....Gary

Thanks for the pro-tips, guys!

I'm currently talking to a dealership that has two G35's, both coupes. One is 2006(107,000 miles), full options, sports package, all that jazz. The other, is a 2004(93,000 miles), and basically every option except the sports package.

Everything I'm reading is telling me that the 2006 has a better interior, quality, fixed minor issues, things like that. But, the 2004 he has is in much better condition according to him. The 2006 has some body scrapes/paint damage in a few places, and the rims were just refinished because of wheel rash. And it doesn't drive as tight as the 2004, again, according to him.

So what I'm trying to determine, is if the 2006 is worth it, even considering the minor cosmetic flaws? The price is margainilyl different, as I'll be doing payments on it, and he can get me in to either one of them.

Thoughts? Again, I used to be a Mustang guy, and was heavily involved in the modding/forum communities there. So of course I would tell myself to start digging through forums and find an answer there... Ha. But don't worry, I have been doing that, and will continue to do so. And hope one of you guys gives me an answer, too. :P

Happy driving!

Thanks for all the tips! I pulled the trigger on one this morning! 2006 coupe, full loaded. But then this happens.. read on to see what I posted in the Tech/Brakes area of the site..:

"Hello all!

I bought my first G, THIS MORNING.

Drove it, inspected it, poked it, prodded it, and decided it was the right by.

For my financial situation, I was floored with the car I would possibly be able to get. So we went for it. Drove it all day for different errands, joy rides, and showing some friends. Did great. Went to work, loved it, and then came home. Which is when things got weird.

I got off one of the major highways here in DFW, and was on an access road goign about 45mph. When all of a sudden, the VDC light and slip light come on and flash, and my front right brake locks up on me. And then released, and then locked on me, and again and again and again. Maybe an ABS spaz?

I pull up to a light, and it stopped, and was genuinely freaked out. The light turns green, and I get back up to around 45, and it happens AGAIN.

This time I was able to pull over, stop, take a moment, and whip out my phone and jump on the the forums. It seems I am NOT the first person to have this happen to them, if I am reading things correctly. I've seen people say it could be the brake pads, brake fluid(checked that, it is full) or the steering angle sensor.

I finally make it home, and I contacted the dealership that sold it to me, and they want me to bring it in Monday and give me a loaner car for the day, so that was very nice of them, as I know this is not a new car.

Does ANYONE have any clue what could have happened to me out there? ANyone that has had this happen? I am currently driving with VDC OFF, and that has seemed to 'cure' the problem for now. I drove it for an hour straight about an hour ago, and it did nothing wrong. Which made me feel a LITTLE better.

Anyways. HELP ME OH WISE AND KNOWLEDGABLE COMMUNITY

-John"
