New guy - No G yet

Hey guys, just dropping in to say hello ... no g for me yet but someday soon I hope. Been test driving a few different cars and have settled on the g35 coupe being my next car. Until then I'll be lurking and hoping my 13yr old German automobile will hold together...

Thanks gman... I have an A4 (B5) platform. 1.8t turbo motor and a few mods. APR 1 bar chip, 18" BBS wheels, stoptechs, and a few other random things.

I bought it new in 2000 and have been able to stay ahead of the learning curve for taking care of these cars but it is wearing on me.

It's a fun car but as I've told my friends I'd like to find a non German car that drives like one . For me the g comes really close and it doesn't seem to have the same level of issues.

For example this weekend or next I've got to replace a secondary air pump, cam chain tensioner seal, and a breather hose that's made from crappy plastic and is cracked, leaking blowby out into the engine bay.

I swear these cars are like a nagging girlfriend!

So what kind of Audi did you switch from? I assume your happy with the change?

I had a a6 quattro.audi is a nice car just maintaining them very expensive.l had my timing belt done at 100,000 cost $1500.Then two weeks later my torque converter locked up another $2200! They have expensive problems. The cats on the a6 are terrible from the factory! Replaced them with magnaflow cats. When audi's get 10 yrs old thats when all my problems surfaced.l like the audi awd system though.l also had it eurocharged it woke it up.big time! My g35x will walk away from it any day.The G 35 is a very nice car! I just wish it had the paint job audi does! I had ming blue peral audi.it was the best paint lve seen from factory! It was smooth as glass no orange peel.my audi was taken out by a drunk driver! I lopked for a replacement audi could not find one that was maintained since new.Almost bought a bmw 328xi Took infiniti for test ride game over!you will like the G35 l know l did. They are just as good as audi but more reliable!

Welcome! I'm fairly new myself. I joined before purchasing my G, and read a lot of good info. Now I have a '06 coupe, and love it. I've done a few engine breathers, but hopefully will soon be getting in to suspension work.

If you like working on your car, which it sounds to me that you do, then the G will fit great with you. I'm the same way, and couldn't wait to get under the hood with it. And the parts aren't horribly expensive, either.

You got that right Gman when they have problems they are expensive. Even regular maintenance is expensive. I did my timing belt myself at 80k and was glad I did it, the local dealer extracts so much money out of people who can't find an indie shop or aren't willing to get into it. I knew a guy who had a TC problem on his A6 ... he ditched it right after that for something else, but you know he's back in an A6 again now

I do like the AWD ... but we've added a Subaru to the family so if I've absolutely got to go somewhere I can hop in the wife's car...

I do enjoy car stuff from time to time, but it's the mods I like the most and "unscheduled Audi maintenance" that gets me. I get the impression that the Gs are less demanding for maintenance and that I'd be able to focus more on mods ... am I thinking right here?
