04 G35x Oregon

Hi!

I've been commuting to work for the past 7 years or so in my 1986 Toyota Pickup that just rolled over to 270K miles and decided I needed something better for my commute. Last week I picked up a nice 04 G35x w/ 130k. It's really in good shape besides the previous owner was a heavy smoker, I used to be a smoker so this wasn't really an issue to me. It came with the original window stickers ($37K), owners manuals, infiniti key chain, first aid kit is only missing a couple bandaids and still in the rear center armrest. One small dent in the front quater panel, and a couple small scrapes on the corner of the rear bumper.

Took it out last weekend for some spirited driving in the twisties. The AWD really helps pull it through the corners. I used to own a '90 240sx and an '87 TII Rx-7. So coming from primarily RWD cars it seems that the AWD helps this larger car pull through the corners.

Coming from the 240sx ka24e motor I'm kinda excited that the VQ35DE has a timing chain instead of a belt, however there was another G35 at the dealer that had the infamous timing chain rattle when he started it up. Are there issues with the chain at all on these? Or was that one possibly just poorly maintained?

The only thing that bugs me, is no MP3 or Aux inputs, and AT..

My commute got a whole lot better...

After some reading I have a couple questions.

What is the highest power that has been put through the G35x drivetrain? What breaks first? Axles? Transfer case?

Are any drivetrain parts interchangeable or 'easy' to swap from the Skyline R33, R34, V35? Transmission, axles, transfer case, drivelines, differentials? (guessing not except V35)

I know it has been asked but, has anyone actually mated a manual trans to the AWD transfer case?

Has anyone used a custom single rear driveshaft on a G35 sedan or X instead of the 2 piece?

Would most turbo kits that fit the 350z and G35, fit the G35x? Has anyone actually used a kit from a 350z for a G35x?

Just talking to myself here..
After quite a bit of research I do believe it is possible to put a manual AWD r33 or r34 tranny into a g35x. However, it would be pretty spendy considering the trans adapter is $1200 alone. Add in the tranny and custom mount/brace +$1000, not to mention pedals, master, clutch, flywheel, custom driveshafts, then there's the ecu issue.

It seems the stock AT can be upgraded to handle some decent power and I'd prefer to focus on perfomance oriented modifications and not difficult tranny swaps.. But it is possible..

Anyone have any experience with an upgraded AT valve body? How's the shifting? Did you add a trans cooler?

Have plans to add a turbo in the future and just want to make sure the trans doesn't burn up the first week. More research to do...

Well, then you get that FI, a valve body upgrade would be good. It looks like your finding all your answers here pretty good.
