Exclamation 04 g35 x

hi I just bought this car 5 days ago, yesterday a code P1281 showed up after a service engine soon light came on. Previous owner says he has never had a warning light. Sooo I take it to a nissan dealer today.. they tell me the exhaust from the manifold back needs replaced due to several holes and rusted flanges and the o2 sensor on the left needs replaced they quoted me 3500 !! I spoke again to previous owner and he swears they are full of it.. that there is not anything wrong with the manifolds especially both .. any input would be great.. it is a little loud when I step on the gas but runs smooth and quiet while idling. IF I have to replace all this exhaust stuff does anyone know somewhere I can buy it a lot cheaper ?? Thanks so much

Thumbs up Lets pretend

Ok, lets pretend you do have to replace all those things. You can get aftermarket headers for 600 and thats for a good set, the O2 sensor shouldn't cost that much and high flow cats would be around 400 and a good aftermarket exhaust should cost you 600 or more (depending on brand). I'm sure you can find a good mechanic to install these things for a reasonable price and the new setup would have you grinning from ear to ear. On the other hand I'd put the car in the air myself and check everything out and make sure all bolts are tightened and their are no leaks in you exhaust system. If you do have to replace something for start with the classified section on this forum and see who has an exhaust for sale and what else you may be able to purchase for very little money.

Yeah, honestly, if you're even slightly into modding your car, you're gonna want to replace most of those parts anyway. If you aren't into modding, please please please don't take it to the dealer. Find a good exhaust shop and get it taken care of there. If you happen to be in SoCal and are willing to come to San Diego, I will personally bring you to my favorite exhaust shops and get you a deal. Do NOT pay a dealer for this.

Being a girl I can be dumb when it comes to cars lol yesterday it started slipping gears ? When I accelerate from a complete stop or give her the gas. .. could it be the transmission ?

Hi guys I had a trans cooler put in 3 days ago ..previous owner had siliconed a fitting where the fluid enters the rad .. sooo left the shop and the cat won't shift into 5th I drive it home in 4th and keep it under 55 mph .. I heard a weird clunking and it got louder until a boom and a Choud of smoke ..car died . When I turn the key I have nothing my lights etc all work but nothing on the ignition.. did the motor blow or the transmission? ?

Is their any fluid on the ground. If so what does it look. You not being able to shift could be a damaged transmission. Where was the motor tached at while driving in fourth gear. Was their significant oil in the car. How many miles are on your car. From what you're describing you MAY need an engine and a transmission. However if the clutch is badly damaged that maybe the reason why you can't shift into 5th gear. It's cheaper to replace the clutch than the tranny (if that's the problem). When you say slipping gears can you be more specific. Their's a difference between slipping gears and a slipping clutch. If the clutch is slipping it's because the their isn't much clutch surface and the flywheel maybe getting too hot. You'll notice that when you hit the gas the car revs higher but isn't moving any faster.
