2003 G35 4dr sedan 202k miles.
I have had this car for 2 years and now it is almost at 202k. i want to trade it in for a new car SOOOOOOOOOOO bad. the gas mileage is crap and fixing little things is expensive asf. lol. its falling apart as well. pain chipped, rust, cloth falling off ceiling, leather just falling apart. but my god the engine and trans purr... i am wondering what can i do to help it last longer. I dont know what the last owner has done i know ive replaced ALOT already.
Unfortunately once you cross the dreaded 200k mark you won't get jack for trade-in since lenders will no longer offer financing on a vehicle in excess of 200k. Your main decision now is to continue to put money into a vehicle that will likely need a new motor within the next couple years, or drive it until failure while you shop for another vehicle, or sell to a cash-only buyer for maybe $2k if you're lucky (probably a lot less considering the condition).
If you do have ANY thoughts about keeping the vehicle then just go shopping on eBay and make a price list for what it would take to replace ALL those worn interior components.
If the body is rust free, mostly straight and if you're willing to go so far as to drop close to $1k into the interior then you can probably have EVERYTHING fixed/replaced including seats.
$1000 interior replacement/repair pieces
$1500 for a lower mile replacement motor
$1000 for a lower mile replacement transmission
$500 for a urethane master bushing kit
$400 shocks/struts
$1000 brakes, power steering R&P, wheel bearings, tie rod ends
So for about $5500 give or take you can restore the vehicle back to like-new or slightly better spec. If you don't feel any real ATTACHMENT to the vehicle and plan on jettisoning the thing in the near future then don't sink a dime into it beyond fuel and motor oil because you should be saving those dimes for a different vehicle.
There is a guy down the street from me that has a 1991 Toyota Camry that's in absolutely mint condition, he said he's never going to buy a different vehicle unless his is stolen or wrecked. He's replaced practically every component on the vehicle including a rebuilt motor and transmission and the thing has almost 400k on the chassis, looks like it literally just rolled off the showroom floor. It's all a matter of doing what YOU want.
