New member w/ 49k miles

hey guys!

I just got a 2004 G35x with 49k miles. Look forward to learning more about these beautiful machines. I'm curious what you all recommend on any must have changes to these cars.

Whoa nice find!

Make sure all the maintenance is up to date.
Tons of things you can do but get a ztube and 5/16th plenum spacer to get the party started.

Next up either an 05/06 Sedan mid pipe or G35 Coupe mid pipe.
Reset your ECU and enjoy the new added pep to your gas pedal along with a slightly nicer exhaust sound

What have you done on yours?

My current G came with a couple mods (MB Alpina wheels and Pioneer Double DIN) but its pretty much stock.
I haven't touched it yet but have some subtle plans in store.
5/16 spacer, zTube Coupe Midpipe, tint, HID retrofit

My old Coupe (1ST G35) basically had:

Grounding Kit
zTube
5/16 Spacer
Berk HFCs
Fast Intentions Intimidator Exhaust
350z Tokico Dspec Adjustable shocks and 350z Htech springs (ABSOLUTELY loved this setup)
Hotchkiss sways (F/R)
K2 Front Bumper and Impul Sides. Rear bumper had a Blue Bat Diffuser
Blue Bat Tails
06 projectors w/ custom 3 color painted headlamps and clear lense colorshift mod (done by me)

I'm missing a few things I'm sure but that's the long and short of it. LOVED that car to death and sold it in its prime. Unfortunately the owners after me trashed it and totalled the car.
I wished I kept it.

tires, tires, tires, tires!!!!

If I have learned anything from garage queen low mileage cars is that they almost always have tires that are more than 5 years old and in some cases very old and very unsafe. A tire's ability to grip the road has nothing to do with how much tread is left on the tire it's the chemical composition of the tire which degrades over time. Anything over 5 years is a safety hazard.

If I had to say there was a"must do" at that mileage it would be the rear differential bushing. Even though it has low mileage there are still a lot of components that can wear due to corrosion so I would get the vehicle up on a lift and spray down anything with a penetrating lube or a rust preventative something like WD-40. Especially if you live in an area where they salt the roads. suspension and exhaust components are the most vulnerable since they are under the vehicle. Same with the front stay member, those are notorious for rusting out at the welds.

Other items like cam sensors and the crank sensor it's not really a matter of age since what happens is the plastic cracks and oil is allowed to seep through, the plastic ages due to time not usage. Keep an eye on any hidden OBD2 codes pertaining to cam or crank sensors and replace them with genuine Nissan parts or Hitachi who was the OEM supplier for those components.

As for performance adders you should add a 5/16 plenum spacer, high flow cats, Uprev tune.
