So about a month ago my clutch completely went out and had to get it towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic fixed the clutch and it drives fine however the issue I'm having now is with the gear selector. Before there used to be an antilock which would prevent me from going into reverse so going into 5th and 6th gear was easy as it would not give me any more access to the right-hand side of the gear selector, and going into reverse would require me to hold down on the shifter and move all the way to the right. Now, however, the antilock system is not there so when I shift to the right I now have full access to where reverse is which makes getting into 5th or 6th really difficult. I took it back to the mechanic but he said it must have been when I burned the clutch which I don't buy. Im looking to just fix this on my own but I honestly don't know where to start! Plz Help
He installed the shifter wrong, the reverse lockout will DEFINITELY require you to press the shifter down, that has nothing to do with the transmission itself.
Usually you remove the shifter from inside the cabin so you can unbolt the linkage from the tranny easier. If it doesn't feel like you can even push the shift **** down, like it's ALREADY sitting in the lower position then the mechanic forgot to put the spring back in when he was putting the shifter back together.
