G37 S Coupe 6 speed manual
Infiniti Premium Brand? Dashboard Cracking and Peeling

I own an exceptionally well kept 2010 Infiniti G37 S Coupe with 69K miles on it. It has always been garage kept and has not seen considerably less time outdoors than its 11 years may indicate given its low 69k miles. Additionally, the windows have always been dark tinted and I am diligent about using a front reflective window sunscreen due to heat here in Florida. A few years back, I started getting dashboard cracks around my vents. Initially, I thought that was a odd one off event so I paid to have it repaired on my own. Then came another crack and another to the point I took it into the dealership. They gave me the run around and essentially said there is nothing they can do other than buy a new dash costing roughly $2,000 after install. I tried again a few months later and was told they would check with corporate to see if there was anything they could do. Of course, I never heard back. As time went on, I thought maybe I just got a lemon but the more I Googled "Infiniti dashboard issues" the more I found out that Nissan / Infiniti have had dashboard issues on multiple vehicles for years and years. The issues range from bubbling or melting to cracking and peeling like mine. Yet Infiniti, to my knowledge, has never issued a recall nor has admitted their defective dashboards. Nonetheless, I decided to try again a few days ago to see if Infiniti would resolve. This time I tried Infiniti's corporate office and again I was disappointed with their response, "There is nothing we can do."

While some may argue that this is a cosmetic issue or that it is not a warranty item, the issue is not about warranty or functionality. The issue is about value of the vehicle. Infiniti claims to be a premium brand and yet it refuses to treat its customers as premium investors in their product. A car is a major investment which carries an expected value and eventually an expected return on investment. That said, defective products (cosmetic or otherwise) devalue your investment. Additionally, as cars naturally depreciate, vehicle defects can disproportionately devalue its value as the cost of repairs do not depreciate while the value of car does.

If Infiniti expects to improve its image, from being the least liked brand according to 2021 Consumer Reports, then it should begin by treating its existing customers with dignity and respect. We have all made a premium investment and return expect a premium product and service. After all, it is far cheaper to keep an existing customer than to try to gain a new one. To those of you in the market of making a premium investment, consider your choice in vehicles wisely and make sure you are dealing with brand that supports and stands behind their product beyond the initial sale.

I strongly recommend to use a product called "303 Aerospace Protectant" on all dashboards regardless of make/model. It's a superb product that is very inexpensive, has a long history of actually working, doesn't smell, and leaves no residue that will attract dust unlike other products on the market.

I actually recommend wiping your ENTIRE interior with it, everything from plastic to leather to metal.

As for your interior, our G35 are somewhat common for a cracking dash but your G37 seems to have a SEVERE amount of cracks. I don't know if that's common amongst most G37 but you could try asking over on their website MYG37.COM to see how prevalent this problem is.

The shape of those cracks looks like it's some kind of differential expansion problem, heat causing different areas to expand at a different rate. Your best bet is probably looking into having someone vinyl wrap your dash just to cover the cracks up. Call around and get some price quotes.

I do have a couple questions for you though, do you have the interior of your car detailed? The reason I ask is it's VERY possible that some chemical has been used to clean the dash that degraded the vinyl topper, my gut feeling is possibly acetone was used. If you clean the interior yourself what product have you been using?

Second question, did you buy this vehicle brand new? If not how many miles were on it when you purchased?

You may not like my reply to you but:

Although I live in New Jersey, I have driven all three of the Infiniti vehicles that I have owned.over the past seventeen years to Florida two to three times per year except during the present ongoing pandemic.
In fact I have always gotten excellent gas mileage with all three Infiniti's using regular 87 octane in excess of 26 MPG but that is another long story.
I have been in Florida during the summer time often for as long as a month and I am well aware of how hot it can get in a vehicle parked outside in the hot Florida Sun.
I have always tilted my sunroof open and opened the drivers side and passenger side front widows about a 1/4 inch to vent some of the super heated air inside the vehicle.
i would strongly suggest that you do the same when parked outside in the hot Florida sun but it is obviously too late for your dashboard.
I never actually measured the inside temperature of a vehicle parked in the hot Florida sun on a 90 plus degree day after being parked for one half to one hour.but if I had to guess, the inside temperature could easily rise to over 140 to 150 degrees or more? (measure it)!
At what temperature does a plastic dashboard begin to melt?
We all know of the deaths that occur to small children and pets inadvertently left in a hot vehicle even for a very short time.
Infiniti knows that a majority of their customers lease vehicles for a short period of time and do not keep vehicles for more than a few years.
I think that you have wishful thinking if you think Infiniti Customer Service is going to do anything on such an old vehicle.
If everything else is good with your vehicle, don't worry, be happy, and enjoy the rest of its life.
Consider yourself lucky to get such long life out of your Infiniti.
Sorry
Just my $.02

My 2006 isn't cracking at all and I live in an environment that usually hits 105F for a month during the summer, very dry. I use that 303 protectant probably 4-5 times per year and I have literally zero dash cracks.

Plus my car is parked facing the sun, I don't use a dash sunscreen, however I do have illegal 18% window tint on everything but the front.

Me too

Owner of a 2008 G35 sedan myself. I bought the car new then, and it was beautiful, got a lots of praise from strangers. I was very proud of my G35. Just like orginal writer I too noticed small fissures in the dashboard too. I live in Texas so I thought it was the intense Sun in Texas. I do believe the Sun and the humidity plays a role in this issue but not them along. I noticed over years different manufacturers would have this issue with dashboards bubbling, cracking. I recall Toyota admitting to the issue. Infiniti said it's a high end car manufacturer and if they truly want to be regarded with likes of Lexus and others it would benefit them to take care of us there cherish clients. I've seen car magazines write that Infiniti is losing market share in the American automotive market and I wonder why. Infiniti doesn't have the cache as Lexus "anyway" back to the main point. The dashboard issue is real and should have had a recall on the dashboards but that's not going to happen. There's a lot more I could write so I'll end with this we G35 and G37 owners love our cars the internet said so just do a search get on YouTube and this site and others like it so Infiniti support us. My broken dashboard saddens me.

Same! I have a 2010 G37 and the dash just started cracking last year. And now the cracks are all over but especially around the vents like yours. This definitely should be recalled by infinity. Their faulty dash has lessened the value of my car. And I don’t even park it in full sun!
