Hey y’all, just brought home my new to me 2004 G35 coupe. It’s OB with a 6MT and 148k on the clock.
It’s pretty much stock except a no name stainless exhaust and test pipe of which I’m not too impressed. it’s pretty raspy and drones like crazy at highway speeds, may revert to a cat and factory muffler. The paint it’s terrible yet, typical clear coat failure on the spoiler, and the hood is a little faded but nothing a DA polisher can’t fix.
My plan is to drive it and take care of the typical 18 year old car stuff.
Nice find! I see you are pretty realistic with a car of this “vintage,” ha. Welcome to the forum!
I would highly recommend checking out the rear diff bushing (if it looks like it’s cried fluid, it needs replaced) and the front lower control arm bushing (bottom strut mount).
that was a very desirable spec car at one point. The exhuast you mention is probably the eBay HKS rep… $250 magic exhaust. I much prefer OEM ha. Harder and harder to find OEM now a Days.

it’s crazy to think that when I turned 16 my first car was a 1989 Integra, that was a year younger than this car is when I got it. 2004 sure as heck doesn’t seem like that long ago.
I will definitely check out the diff bushings. It could probably use a trans mount and I’m sure the LCA bushings are going bad, the front end is a little clunky. They may be attributing to some slightly odd suspension behavior when going over uneven roads. Nothing severe yet but it’ll be on the list for sure. But for the price I paid, it’s a diamond in the rough.
There are a few reasonably priced oem mufflers on eBay but I’m hoping to start scouring pick-n-pull in hopes of finding an intact oem exhaust.
Front end clunking usually means the “rearward control arm” or “compression rod” and I would definitely check that bushing. It famously goes out. Before removing it, definitely coat it with a good amount of rust blaster. There are horror stories of the body stud breaking off 😪!
