2007 Infiniti G35X - replaced alternator, now having real issues
Recently my car just shut down, no warning signs; we tried to jump it off several times, ended up replacing the alternator- since it’s been a migraine headache, it feels like the car is hot, but it’s not actually running hot, battery voltage is good, the alternator is checking out good, all fuses are working properly- inside and near the battery; so here’s the kicker, when I’m on the highway going faster then 65 (75-80mph) my car feels like it’s going to turn off; check alt lights pops on the car bogs down also when Iv driven a good bit when I’m sitting in park to get out all the inside lights start flashing like there shorting out (what is wrong)… it had a system from the previous owner, wires are all still running but not connected; I don’t understand! It sat a year before I purchased it, it also has this burning smell/ it was running out of water (coolant) within a couple days/ I’m putting the best gas possibly but at my wits end & need advise from g35x owners - 2007 g35x
Schedule a 1 hour diagnostic with Nissan / Infiniti.
If you want to do it yourself, rent a pressure tester for the coolant system, it's probably leaking somewhere.
Find old aftermarket wiring and make sure it's not grounding out somewhere.
The alternator, check both ends of the primary wire, also make sure your engine to chassis bonding jumper is in good condition, that's the larger gauge wire going from the timing chain cover to the chassis. You need a COMPLETE circuit for the alternator to function normally.
Does the alternator light turn on if you rev the engine when in park or is it only when driving?
