G35C 6MT DG reporting in =)

I just got my DG 6MT today. Yeah, and being unfamiliar with stickshift, I managed to drive it 60 miles home.

I drove a couple of stickshifts awhile ago and almost never stall but none seem to be as hard as the G35c, I stalled plenty of times today.

Heres a few questions:
from stationary to 1st gear
do 1
1) Gas it up to 1k rpm (which is extremely hard I always end up getting 3k rpm) and slowly releasing the clutch
2) slowly release the clutch while gassing the pedal.

can someone give me a more detailed explanation?

I'll post pics later

You'll get the hang of it in due time. The clutch on the G35 is tough to get used to. Practice, practice, practice.

I got my car back in May and just now i'm finally feeling like a pro. Sorry i couldn't exactly help with a detailed explanation that you requested but my best advice is just to get out there and practice man. Good luck.

Congrats on your new G. You're going to have a blast with it.

I have been driving MT's for some 30 years. American, Japanese, German, Italian, I've driven most of them (No, I haven't driven an Enzo, yet. ).

My '05 G, which is my daily driver, was the most difficult tranny to drive perfect out of the box. However, in time it drives just like any other car. Different situations will require different approaches. For starters . . . Simply release the clutch a small amount, apply a bit a gas and continue to release the clutch. The car will let you know what it needs.

Good luck and be safe.

Oh, btw . . . If your car is anything like mine . . . The clutch engages quite high. If so, just simply keep that in mind when lifting off in 1st gear.

scraped the underside of my baby the within 4 hours of owning it...I must be good. I was pulling out of the driveway and I heard the most horrible sound I've heard in my life *scrappeeee*. It was the chin/lip spoiler .
Well at least it wasn't the bumper? It's purpose if I'm not mistaken is to protect the bumper right?

keep the advice on 1st gear coming

I'm getting the hang of shifting into 1st from stationary, but one thing seems to be the problem. It takes me a long time. First, I have to slowly feel(most other cars at the traffic light get a carlength or 2 infront of me) the engagement point then slowly let go and accelerate at the same time. How do you guys launch so quickly from stationary without stalling?

You will get used to it quick. I never had a standard and had not driven standard consistently for some time. best thing to do is to get up early in the morning on a weekened when there is no traffic and drive all around town. thats what I did! after a few hours I got the hang of it. Now I love it. great choice in color Thats what I have also!! best of luck

Yeah, you will get the hang of it. I've driven alot of Nissans and Isuzu (Rodeo) and man, were those hard to drive stick. However, this car was even harder. I managed to stall it a couple of times in 3 months. If you are breaking in the G slowly (like drive it granny for the first 1500 miles), here are my tips:

1. Remember to blip the throttle (gas). accelerate and when you reach about 3000 rpm, step on the clutch. Now, blip the throttle to about 1500-2000 K BEFORE you put it in second gear. Second gear is the trickiest gear on the G. Once you blip, put it in gear and do it quickly. You will have less time to stall it and it will be smother (just don't gas it too much).
2. The engagement is high on our G so blipping the throttle is more important. This way, even if you release the clutch really quickly, it won't stall.
3. Finally, give it more throttle (usually about 2000 rpm). This means just blip the throttle up 2k for second, 3k for third/fourth/fifth.

That's about it. It will take some getting use to. Once you do though, you'll have a blast and give 2 car lengths so you won't accidently go too fast and rear end the guy in front of you!
