Potential new owner with deal question.

Hi all, this is my first time posting. Hope to be among the owners soon!

Just got back from a dealer and looked at an '04 6MT coupe, Desert Platinum, graphite interior with 13k miles. I was given a heads up on the trade in, which was bought at the same dealership, and being traded for a completely diff model.

It's got sunroof, bose system, rear spoiler (is only that the "aero kit?"), Brembos (are these on all MT's?) and some other small options. They are asking $29,900 and are very firm. They are giving me a very good trade in price for my '03 GTI (about $2k more than anyone else)

3 things I am concerned with are:

1. Is that a decent price? (I get wildly diff prices from diff sources)

2. They are including 4 new tires, but is it normal that the stock rears were worn out at 13k miles??

3. The PO was a pipe smoker and I can smell it a bit. Will that come out at all? They say yes, of course

Thanks in advance for any advice. Been reading this forum a while now, hoping to trade up to a G!

I did research on these cars for at least a year before I bought mine and they seem to hold their value very well. I'd say go for it! They are offering the best trade in for your car and w/13000 I think thats pretty good deal for $30,000! I looked at a 03 auto G35 at the Acura dealership where I got both of my RSX-S' and they wanted $30,600 for it with 34000 miles and a huge scratch on the rear bumper! As for the smoke smell it will go away!

Thanks for the response, OhMyG.

My big sticking point was if I wanted to hold out for an '05, since I like the interior a bit more, but this seemed like a good deal, and really, once I was out on the test drive I didn't notice the difference much.

I found a thread here about the tire life, so I guess that part is no surprise.

Thanks again,
Jeff

Good deal, Killi, especially when you factor in the tax savings...

OEM tires can go much quicker.....it all depends of the driver, but they're soft tires so longevity isn't their forte....

With some good cleaning, maybe professionally done, the smoke smell will be almost gone, and with a little time and constant aeration, it'll go completely.

G/L and post when you bring her home.

Welcome to G35Driver BTW.

C.

Hmm.. dealer just called and they are putting 4 Dunlop tires on but didn't seem to know the exact model. I don't imagine too many come in the right 18" size. Should I be concerned about their choice?

Everything sounds good Killi, but make sure you check the Kelly Blue Book first. I paid $30k last March for a 2004 with 17k miles, I would think you could get a little bit more off a year later.

Thanks. If it makes any difference, they are giving me about $2k more than the Galves trade-in value for my GTI... and faily close to private-party value.

I also traded my 03 GTi VR6 ($12,000)for my NEW 06 G35C 6MT (24,000). This might give you an idea about your deal. Welcome~

24,000? Sorry if I'm being dense, but what is that figure?

They are giving me $14450 for my 1.8t GTI. I imagine this is over-allowing for my trade rather than coming down on their $30k price. Maybe a tiny bit of tax advantage there too.

Oh, and thanks for the welcome!

The only reason I didn't quite have a seizure was because there was no $ before it! Had there been, I would still be passed out on the floor...

Thanks for clearing that up!

Got it!

Just got back from the dealer with my G!

Only bad thing is the low tire pressure light was on. Pulled over to a rest area and checked them. One was maybe a bit low, so I added a little. Light didn't go off though.... wonder if there's soemthing they did wrong when they put the new tires on.
