EMayhem - I had 18s with the Pilot sports. It really is hard to believe just how bad they are in the snow until you experience it yourself

Blue/rca:

Thanks for the input (as well as the tirerack contact!).

I'm sure I'll be calling Luke before next winter.

Re: NE drivers - be honest about winter driving

I have the 6MT coupe and live in Northern VA, and though we haven't had that much snow, I haven't had a problem with it at all. I'm very cautious, and I'm lucky enough not to have any hills to deal with, but it hasn't been as bad as people are making it out to be. Maybe it's just me.

Do they not treat the road there??? I did fine in the snow once they put salt down. I just start out in 2nd, and never ever take trac control off.

Re: NE drivers - be honest about winter driving

I don't think your getting it. The G does not move at all on incline in the snow......I don't care what you drove in the past in the snow....it does not compare. I know first hand. My car would not reverse out of a freshly shoveled driveway without a push from the front. That is the brutal honest truth.

I didn't believe all the hype about how bad the car was so waited until the first couple of inches hit the ground.... I ended up paying 1700 for that mistake because Tirerack was all sold out of 17's and rims so I had to go to my local Firestone where they proceded to rape me of my cash.

The pilots are dangerous in the snow....those who say otherwise either live directly in the city, don't know what New England weather is or don't have the Pilots. There are also alot of New Englanders who just picked up their G's and are raving about how great it performed on ice, but didn't have their car the whole winter.

Get the LM-22's, I have them and their great. My Pilots go back in late April.....you can never trust New England weather....good luck.

IT's the truth. You don't actually know how bad they are in the snow until you experience it. I never drove my car in the snow so i didn't get snow tires. One day the snow started coming down and I m at school. I had no choice but to drive. Was the one of the scariest things. I wouldn't do it again. I mean when these guys say no traction, its absolutely none. Its like you just gotta pray and hope you make it to where you are going. ITs not even funny. I wouldn't try it.

Re: NE drivers - be honest about winter driving

We live in Northern Vermont. With Blizzak LM-22's our G coupe was a champ all winter, including long trips during two nor'easters. (That means big time snow and ice storms with wicked wind). So long as you don't try to drive out in snow that is too deep so that your front bumper acts like a plow, you will do fine.

I AM scared to death, though, of putting the Pilot Sports back on too early.

Hugely powerful yet with a liquid cat-like elegance. The car has it too.

I'm further south than you (I guess) and I have put my tires back on. I wasn't going to do it until May but I have seen too many coupes with 18's.

Re: NE drivers - be honest about winter driving

I am looking to get my G coupe soon - i was thinking of ordering some nice winter tires to mount on my stock 17's and buying a nice set of 18" chrome summer rims and tires...i guess this is a good idea - but what should i do with the stock tires that i get already mounted on my stock 17's lmao?

sell the tires. Actually I believe I read that the all-season stock 17's aren't that bad in the snow. I believe its only the 18" performance with LS package that will give you a prob. But Im sure summer tires couldn't hurt.
