Re: Chroming wheels in NY?

Good Luck! I have been wondering the same thing! From my research, aka slacking off at work, I don't think there are any places that do Chrome plating in NY because of the toxic fumes, etc. The only place that may, that I haven't checked on is Nassau Chromium? I believe they do plating on house stuff like faucets, antiques etc. I would love to get my 18" 's chromed so if you find a local spot where we wouldn't have to give our first born for shipping, let me know! I think the guys from Orange County Choppers use some guys in Tennessee.

I was told to try Hygrade Plating 718-392-4082 there obviously not on LI though. I will call tomorow and get the scoop. Maybe I will try to set us up with a deal. Anyone else interested.

Re: Chroming wheels in NY?

I've done some searching myself, and after asking around a lot, I've been told that NY just won't give out the permits anymore to use the chemicals needed. There was a place in New Rochelle (Ithink) a few years ago, but even they had their permit revoked. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Chroming wheels in NY?

my friend got his rims on his 325i chromed. But it was really a trade in process. He went to the place and they ordered his wheels in chrome when they got the chrome wheels they mounted them and took his stock wheels and shipped them out to the place that sent them the stock ones chromed - so technically his werent chromed but he still got stock ones chromed...it believe mounted and everything costed him 900.

This is all heresay from my friend.
The place he got it done at was:
212 Motoring Sports aka Mobile Universe
718-743-3200

Niel (aka O NO) has his 17" chromed. I believe he went to NJ to get them done. He's done a bit of research...you'll see him at the Sunken Meadow meet, so you can ask him there or else shoot him a pm. They look awfully nice.

Electro plating in NY has all but dried up due to envirnmental issues on how to dispose of the waste water into the sewer system. They can install water treatment equipment to do this but it is extremely costly and they can't compete price wise with out of state platers.

Thumbs up Plating in the NY Area....

Guys, I understand that Chrome plating is cool and everything, but you must be aware that due to all the road salt in the winter in the tri state area, it won't be long before the plating is pitted and not looking it's best.

However, if you are going to stay on top of your wheels and keep them salt free, there are platers around that will do the job.

There are a few in the Newark, NJ area. The company names escape me right now, it's been awhile since I had stuff plated. I'll do some research.

The best way to find platers is to use Thomas Register's online.
(www.thomasnet.com). It's a search engine for Engineers. They will list just all kinds of platers and from around the country as well. Remember you may get it done cheaper in the South instead of the Northeast..... ( looser enviro. laws)

I would discuss it with the plater and let him know it's for a wheel application and he may be able to direct you to something that will hold up the best in a salty environment ( chrome with more or less of something else in it to stand up better).

Good Luck...... and post your findings !!!!!!

Looking for a place that re-dips chrome rims?

I did my research and found the last reported company to do chrome re-dipping in New York.
Name of the business is called Sandys Bumper Mart, located in Syracuse NY. Contact number is 315-472-8149. Its a 6-8 week process.

Hope this information helps.
