I'm dropped about 3" on 18's with a 40 side wall and I've only scraped on two speed bumps that were huge. You got to just take them at an angle lol. Here's a pic for reference.
IMO, just save up and buy a set of coilovers. That way you can play with the settings and have it to your exact liking and have the ability to adjust dampening (depending on what coilovers you get).
