Only had to pay for the caliper. Dropped the car off last week, and got a call from the service adviser. My warranty was set to expire at midnight that night.
But they couldn't diagnose the tranny problem until the caliper was replaced. I have a line on some junkyard parts, and would have just rebuilt a caliper myself and installed it, but my warranty would expire the minute I left the shop. So, I just had them do it. They then found some serious pressure issues in my tranny. (I was having a bad 2-to-3 shudder, slipping when downshifting into 3 going up a hill, and a lot of banging going down from 3 to 2.). Warranty company procured and shipped a reman'ed tranny to the shop, and the tech said he was very impressed with the quality.
Also, I had the oil problem around the spark plugs at cylinders 3 and 4 so both side valve covers and gaskets were replaced with the new ones. Finally, the clutch on my a/c compressor was whining BAD. I mean, sometimes in humid weather, it sounded like a supercharger. That too was replaced.

He said cheese.
Got to go with the extended warranty.
Forgot they also replaced my #3 coil. Grand total: 3159.16, plus whatever the transmission cost was from the supplier. That's not on the slip. I think they got it for $1,700. I had another $2,500 repair in the fall (power steering rack & left steering knuckle). I couldn't possibly afford 7,300 in repairs out of pocket. I'd have to junk the car...

Spacer is still sitting in my tool chest. I was about to put it in, then decided to drop the car off for service and didn't want any questions about it, so I didn't bother. Haven't had time since I got it back Monday.
VW bug... turbo one?
Yes, still really aching for an SUV, but money is tight and it's going to be even worse after July 1st so it doesn't look like it will be happening any time soon.

Phantomphag, generally it's just a coworker and I either Friday or Saturday ripping it up at one of three places in Providence, destroying womens' morals one at a time. I have met up with Naughty for a drink a few times, but he's too much of a twatwaffle to come into Providence. He's skeeered.
