Death on the Henry Hudson Parkway

His age makes me wonder if it was a young Coupe driver doing something reckless. Hate to think it was a mechanical problem.

NY POST 1/13/2006

Manhattan

A man was killed early yesterday when his car slammed into a tree on the Henry Hudson Parkway near West 96th Street, cops said.

The 24-year-old man, whose name was not released pending family notification, was driving southbound on the parkway when his 2003 Infiniti struck the tree at 1:10 a.m., police said.

He was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital, where he died.

How can you hit a tree on the west side? Aren't there guard rails, except for the riverfront entrances?

I haven't been on the westside highway in sometime but southbound you do have trees etc on the rightside going southbound. I believe the boat basin is in that area too. That is an area at that time of the night where you definitely can pick up some speed, but who knows. Either way its a shame to hear.
