Maintenance costs

Hello all,

I will be soon due for the 7500 miles maintenance service on my G35 sedan. The quotes I got were $117 and $106 (from Ray Catena in Edison and Circle in West Long Branch - both NJ). That for oil and filter change, tire rotation and general car inspection. Is this the normal price or I'm taken for a ride here? Any cheaper options (maybe doing it at a Nissan dealership)?

Re: Maintenance costs

You own a 35k dollar car and worried about a 100$ service charge. Have the work done.....pay the bill and enjoy the ride.

Hey, you need to take care of the ride!! One hundred dollars for 7500 miles equals 1.3333 cents per mile!!! Great deal for the G!!

I do not trust places like jiffy lube for the G! As for tire rotation, you are correct!

Re: Maintenance costs

For going to a dealer for a routine maintainance:
you probaly need to drive farther;
pay more money.
wait longer.
Can they do a better job than your local garage? I doubt it.

Re: Maintenance costs

I'm the service manager as well as one of the techs at an independant garage in Rocky Hill CT. As a former tech at serveral dealerships I'll tell you and all my fellow G brothers and sisters from experience your getting taken.

I quit all the dealerships I worked for because I have onscience. I can't justify charging someone $117 or $106 to change someones oil and rotate their tires. Even for a Mobil 1 synthetic oil change and tire rotation and "inspection" you should'nt be paying more than $85 or $90 tops.
By the way to anyone out there with a coupe with the 18 in. wheel package, see if your dealer tries to charge you for a tire rotation because if they do then I proved my point. They can't rotate the 18's because they have different size tires front to rear. I'm not telling everyone this to seem like a knowitall I'm saying it because I see alot of good people get ripped off in the repair business and it's not right. People bring me their cars after having work done somewhere else and sometimes I see that their cars have been butchered or worse the previous place did nothing at all. There's enough money to be made in this business the honest way. It's the dishonest ones (like some dealers)that give repair shops a bad name.

Re: Maintenance costs

If you are worried about spending money on oil changes and filter. Go spend the extra buck get a good oil and filter and you can easy go 5k - 7k on one oil change.

If you have a coupe.....no such thing as tire rotation, wheels have different tires on them from front to rear.

Beside all other stuff you can do on your own, and save a lot of money.
